Hi Guys...

Just taken the (fairly major) plunge after months of debating about exactly what to get...and bought a black Mk1 GT3 (deep breath...YESSSSS...even deeper breath...OMG fifty grand! lol) Drove it last week, and had to have one!!!

Many thanks for all your responses to my posts (GT3 vs CSL etc.) and for helping me decide.

Having full service, new front brakes, cup clutch and lightweight flywheel fitted before I pick it up (next week I hope). Bonus time in Oct, then over to JZM for Manthey bits and pieces

Just spoke to my insurers (BMW insurance), who took AGES to get a changeover quote for me...then came up with £775 on top of the £1k I pay for my Z3M roadster. Not impressed...I'm 34, full NCB, 3 points (b*stards!), SDM+biz use, 15k miles p/a, 5 months to run on the policy.

Anyone out there with GT3's able to recommend a good specialist insurer??? What's the annual premium for a yr 2000 Mk1?

Thanks again!

Hi, I'm thinking about a GT3 too so in a similar position to you a few days ago! Are you upgrading to mk2 brakes or just new discs + pads?

Also was 50k a dealer price?

I paid £1200 with Tesco - brand new car, 3 points, garaged, 43yo.

Liverpool Victoria wouldn't quote me cos it wasn't in their database - pity as they don't require Trackers.

Guy's,

The average quote seems to be around the £1200 Fcomp mark. Speak to Chris Wilkins at Bickley insurance. he looks after us Titanic boys and seems to get good deals. I can't recall the number, but a search on pistonheads should work, or drop a mail onto the Titanic site.

Another vote for Bickley - they were the best on my supercharged 993 C4S last week (800) and have track day cover on top

Most of the policies Chris offers are underwritten by NU - and also allow pay per event trackday cover. Roll cages and mods are not normally a problem with NU either. Chris loves to chat by the way!

Thanks guys - 1200 odd is a LOT more sensible than the 3k or so my current insurer would require! Will make some calls!

Quick response to the query above - the car has std brakes - I could have opted for the Mk2 upgrade, but I'd rather wait and see what JZM come up with in terms of their own kit. I did the clutch/flywheel upgrade as the clutch was due to be replaced, and I thought it would be worthwhile having the heavyweight Cup parts installed in anticipation of a Manthey upgrade and some 'energetic' use

The 50k price was with a dealer - Dove House up near Northampton. They have been FANTASTIC to deal with (MUCH better than the idiots I've spoken to in the main dealer network). I'd definitely recommend going to them (and they have a VERY tasty black GT2 with carbon brakes on sale there as we speak). Speak to Simon - excellent service, and came up with great trade in offers too.

I thought it was a better bet to go for a Mk1 at 49k rather than 55 or so for a slightly lower mileage (mine is only 25k) Clubsport model (e.g. Top555's car). Also perfer leather recaros to cloth. I reckon in 4 years time they'll all be pretty equal, so the 5k isn't worth investing now, I'd much rather put it into performance upgrades Also loved the car in black - looks fab with the carbon pack inside.

Bickley are the brokers to go with. They offer cast iron track day cover for a set amount extra per track day. Tescos will not do this!!
