How Do Certain Non Franchised Dealers get hold of high spec

For example
I check the Mercedes Used car website daily.
Autotrader daily
BCA daily

and I don't see any of these cars but certain dealers seem to have a steady stream of them coming in.
These cars have a high specification on them but have slight oddities.
For example a 350CDI badge as a 500 or 4matic Badge swapped for an AMG badge.

Obviously I am assuming not to get a straight answer from said dealers that is why I am asking here.
Is this a sign to stay away

Either auction or from the private market usually.

They get known for buying that sort of thing and underwrite in the trade
