Mileage discrepencies
Discussion
Depends a lot on what car and age.....
Mileage discrepancies are fairly uncommon on modern cars the fact you have seen a few with them is slightly random or bad luck!
There was chat on here about this recently and if the owner or history can make it stack up i.e. A stamped dial change etc then it's not the end of the world especially if you plan on not selling the car any time soon!

Really you'd need to do an NMR investigation to substantiate the 'mileage discrepancy.' It could be something as innocent as say for example the car reading 47,234 miles but it was HPI'd and somebody had entered the mileage as 45,000 miles, so would be an innocent mistake. An NMR will detail all inputs of mileage and dates. Working in the trade I see this a lot more than you would expect
You can put a mileage discrepancy on any car just by doing a mileage check.
If your neighbour annoys you bung their registration number into HPI and put 500 miles in as the mileage......when they go to px it it will show with a mileage error.
It can be a really daft system - I don't believe it even uses MOT mileages yet. Really, as per above, you need to look at the detailed data.
