I'm pretty much decided on a Cayenne (958) for our next family car. No strict budget, but was thinking £30-40k. I'd originally had my heart set on a Turbo. It looks like a really good combination of luxury/pace/practicality. And we will only do c 6k miles a year in it, so poor mpg is OK.

Having kept an eye on the market for a while now, my slight concern is that (just about) all the used Cayenne Turbos for sale are the same cars that were for sale 3-4months ago. Some have been for sale much longer still. Makes me wonder, if I get a Turbo, will it be an absolute pain to sell on (without taking a total bath on depreciation).

This got me looking at Cayenne S Diesels. There are plenty about including some well spec'd ones (albeit rarely spec'd as well as the Turbos). And for my budget, I could probably just about get a MY15 facelift. Whereas I guess I'd be looking at MY11-13, pre facelift, Turbo.

Just wonder how the two compare? And any thoughts on above situation... which would you choose etc.

Any help/thoughts appreciated... cheers

Are you talking the 4.2 V8 Diesel or 3.0?

They're no Turbo but they're a very good alternative the performance won't be close but they'll have more than enough grunt for everyday driving only a test drive will tell you if you can live with the performance shortfall.

Would a hybrid one not work as a kind of best of both worlds?

Why would he settle for the Hybrid when MPG isn't an issue? If MPG isn't an issue, then the Turbo is surely the one to go for? The diesel will have more low down grunt though. A test drive is your best bet, see which one feels right for you.

I think the hybrid is slower than the S Diesel.... and even heavier!

If anyone knows of anyone looking to sell a nice turbo - pls get in touch!
