I have a Z4M shod with Coninental Sport Contact M3 tyres as fitted since new. The fronts are due for replacement and I can’t decide whether to just replace the fronts with the same tyre or switch all four to Michelin.

The choice seems to be

Michelin Pilot Super Sports - the ones BMW and Michelin recommend

Or

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 – the ones that seem to get the awards

Or

Michelin Pilot Sport 4s – are these the replacements for Michelin Pilot Super Sports (ETA these aren't available in the size I need)

What’s the best choice?

I’ve had all 3 and would rate them in ascending order as you’ve listed with the 4S as the best.

I have these on my E46 M3 which came in 2016 with a Continental 5P then their performance tire ; now it’s the 6 I believe?

The 4S provides better grip and feedback and is wearing less.

I swapped from the contis to PS2s last summer. Made a massive difference. I can’t tell you about the relative merits of the Michelin’s but I can tell you I wish I’d made the change a lot earlier.

Flick a coin over the PS4 and SuperSports.

The SSs are a little better in the dry but the PS4s have the edge in the wet and colder conditions. Unless you are on 19s the PS4S won't be available.

I am changing my rear contis to PS4's on my M3. They are down to 3mm but what really did it was putting my foot down in 3rd at 75 mph the other day on motorway in dry (15 degrees) and wheel spinning nearly leaving me in the central reservation. Very scary

Thanks for the replies

My choice order has become....
MPS4s
MPSS
MPS4

In 18.... so the 4s is out unless, as some suggest, they bring them out March/April in the following...

225/45 ZR18 (95Y) XL
255/40 ZR18 (99Y) XL

If I do go MPSS will I be able to get them for the next few years?

I tried to order some super sports yesterday - they are on 2 month backorder so called Michelin who confirmed they are discontinued. The super sports are replaced by the pilot sport 4 S which they don't do in 18".

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres it will be then!

I will probley but Goodyear’s f1 on the front of my z4mc in the summer , I had them on my m5 and rated them . Sadly I’m stuck with Bridgestone on the back their brand new dearler fitted them not me . The ps4 are a bit pricey for me I only do 1 goodwood trackday a year . I would be interested in how you rate them tho

I put a set of Pilot Sport 4's on the Z4MC for last years Mille Miglia and couldn't fault them.
Brilliant on wet May Tuscany roads.

Gratuitous pic.

after much deliberation and constant changes of mind I've had some Michelin Pilot Super Sports fitted. What a difference to the OE Continentals. Just got back from 270mi hoon. At OE pressures they are more compliant and deliver much better grip. In fact, its quite difficult to get them to break traction and when they do they do progressively. Not cheap but I'm very happy.
