Brake warning light finally came on today.

From where can I get front and rear OEM pads? And how can I tell whether I need new discs?

Thanks,
Nat

Decided to take it to RPM. Not much more than buying the parts from Eurocarparts.

OEM is original equipment manufacturer.

You can buy it from the Porsche parts counter.
You can also buy “OEM” from eBay and such like but are they really OEM or just cheapest pads possible put into an OEM box? You’d never know.

I always use OEM parts from main dealers

May I ask what mileage your brake light came on? I’m at 35k (2013 63 plate) and planning a Euro trip in May/June. Still on the 1st pads & discs all around so wondering whether this might be a must do item...

I am on 45k. No brake warning light yet!

Pads look like they have 7-8mm left

Poor in what way? No feel? Or they just don’t stop? Porsche claim their brakes to be the best of any production car in the world so could be something’s wrong.

Just hit 37k. But have PTV which probably wears them quicker.

Many thanks. Looks like I might get away with it but will have em checked before I go. Not sure what the Italian phrase is for “my brakes are f@&£!d...”

Appearances can be deceptive. Take both of those cars on a trackday and your AMG brake pedal will go soft after a couple of hot laps and lose the brakes completely if you carry on. The boxster on the other hand will go round all day with just the need to rest the car between sessions.

very true and now the 718 has massive brakes as a result, the 987 and even the 981 suffer from heat and pedal travel if used hard

it's about the best thing they did to the 718, fitted bigger disks and calipers !

look at the track cars they all have 6 pots and 380 or 420 mm disks.

Give George a call from here.

He always sorts my brakes out no matter what car. Has always been unbeatable on prices too.

Just recently ordered from him myself. Sebros discs, Textar pads, sensors, dampeners and fitting kits.

Just pads, backing plate is on top of that. I keep checking them as it is surprising they have such good life left.

Not sure why I bother as the warning light will come anyway!
