'06 Audi A3 - Radio issue

Hi guys,
Trying to get a little help for a fired who's having some issues with the radio in his '06 Audi A3.
Originally the radio would crackle and occasionally cut out the rear speakers, now it will turn on but not play anything (just have crackling), this happens when the engine is turned on....
Whats the likely issue here? - new radio job or duff wiring?
