Police Nazi 'Bangham' proposing scrapping the 10% guideline to speeding and fine drivers for 1mph over the limit.

Still....I guess there is a Police pension deficit to fund.

I'd be entirely in favour of rigid policing of speed limits IF they adjust limits to be what they were always meant to be - the fastest it's safe to travel on a given road in ideal conditions.

I fear this will turn a lot of people to the thought that "the police are the enemy." Sensibly, a few politicians have already stated this and also that 'good' drivers will be punished as part of a zero tolerance approach.

What facts as the other thread in the SPL on this it is just in the real pretty much unworkable. Additionally, as many others on here have said you end up with people just looking at the speedo not where they are going and others.

This is just someone pushing their viewpoint without any real facts beyond deaths. Well consider focusing on other factos not just speed such as tailgating, mobile phone use etc.

Solely focusing on speed is just ignoring the other issues and the easiest to measure.

Furthermore, as the thread in SPL pointed out this c*nt is self interested in pushing speed awareness courses and is director of one such company! I mean FFS!

Agree with this. There are 30 and 40 limits now where they used to be national and for no reason.

Even where accident statistics support a lowering of limit there are loads which could and should be redesigned before just whacking a lower limit on them.

If limits were clearly there for a reason more people would stick to them and there would then be much more of a case for stricter enforcement.

1mph is so ridiculous, you can't even turn on cruise control for that, because as soon as you head down hill you'll be breaking the law.

Everything has an accuracy tolerance.
I would challenge the datesand details of calibration of the speed cameras etc., if I were to be stopped for 1mph over.

I don't know the details behind calibration of this type of equipment but I would suggest that 10% + 2mph covers the Police not to require Calibration certification.

To say a motorist gets a speeding ticket at 1mph over the limit would mean that ALL speed cameras, speedometers etc would have to be calibrated so they were 100% accurate, I don't see it being workable

The UK really does have the most backward road standards and policing. I do wonder if half of these people actually possess any common sense at all?

Whilst his statement is stupid, naive and unworkable the theory that speedos would all have to be cal85brated is wide of the mark. It is an offence to have a speedometer that undergrads, all speedos thwrefore have an inbuilt tolerance that means they over read

They are saying speed cameras would have to be 100% calibrated, not speedos.
