Okay so in a World where we no longer need a man to go round lighting the gas lamps on the street and it appears that the job of 'Grid Girl' is also shortly to be confined to the history books what other jobs have ceased to exist, and are there any that should make a come back?
IIRC there are still four or five lamplighters in London. British Gas and English Heritage employ them.thepeoplespal said:
Park keeper, ala Parkie of Bash St Kids & Beano fame.
I was having this conversation the other day with my dad, it was more of a what the hell are we doing as a nation with our money, when I was younger we had a 200 ship navy, huge military etc and there was all these jobs you don't see anymore, park keepers, gardeners, concierge, proper traffic wardens to name a few.I'd love to know what we're spending it all on.

So you are telling me that people get paid to gaslight? interesting, been doing it for free all these years...Seriously though (i would never gaslight!) i thought that other than the odd 'once a week billy at the local Victorian centre lights the lamps' it was no longer a regular job!
