Weekend Toy - Project Car or 987.2/997
Discussion
Hi all,
To keep it short and get straight to it. Bought a 2012 MCS, mod bug, suspension, track days, daily, sold because kms were stacking up quickly.
Leased a A3 as the daily...a year into it I want something for the weekend.
Long time lurker of pistonheads as we have more cars in common than the US for project purposes (Chile). One of them being a EK Civic. Finally tried one yesterday and I realized my "mod" "racecar" "trackaddict" experience with the mini was nothing. This civic had B20/B18 swap, forged internals and all the bells and whistles; however, the exterior was lacking the same treatment as the engine and interior...which was one of the reasons why I decided to pass aside from some noises in the gear box/leaks/etc that scared me off. Also because the car was 1 semi slick away from being a purely track focused car rather than the weekend toy I was after.
After finally testing out a proper project car, I realized I do not know crap and what's on paper does necessarily translate to when one actually drives it. The only "old" car that has any nostalgic feeling is an E30 (my godfather raced one in rally back in the 90s). And also the aesthetics of a mint E30 blows any civic out of the water.
TL:DR - I have no mechanical experience but I could slowly get into it with a proper long term project such as an E30
OR take out a personal loan and get a Porsche 987.2 or 997 and keep it for a "shorter time" (3 years)
I don't think I'm a project car enthusiast, but part of me wants to be. The other half just wants a hassle-free weekend toy.
