Brooklands Banking To Go ??????
Discussion
I may be a bit late on this one. Is it right that the banking at Brooklands is to be demolished to make way for a fcuking supermarket? If so I reckon this may be going beyond whats acceptable.
Can you imagine the uproar if they gave permission to dig up and build a shop on part of Monza, or the 'Ring or Le Sarth ...... makes me shudder.
And they call this progress?

Well they don't seem too bothered about digging up the Le Mans circuit - look how much they have changed it in the last few years! I wish there was more care taken to preserve motor racing heritage - so many great circuits have been destroyed, the latest being Hockenheim
As for building a supermarket on Brooklands - I think they already demolished a section of it for some other supermarket access road

not sure if it is true but I had a chance for a photo shoot recently http://uk.briefcase.yahoo.com/wraith34uk and if you have never been on it believe me it is steep I thought my car was going to topple over, probably would have if I had been any further up

If you're late then you're really late, when I lived in Woking, about 7 years ago, only a kick in the pants from Brooklands, there was a Tesco and M&S place within the banked track. It was only while I was stood in the car park looking at the overgrown bank that I realised what I was looking at. There was a big notch cut out of it to let the cars in and iirc other parts of the track had gone long before under industrial units. The banking within the museum ground was fine and relatively weed free however.

The track is now safer than it has been for many years read below or check the web site, brooklands.org.uk
The whole of the remaining original track at Brooklands has been formally scheduled as a Historic Monument.
The scheduling means that for the first time, the track now enjoys legal protection against damage. Importantly, it would also now be extremely difficult to obtain permission to build on the track, or cause any damage to it in the course of carrying out any development work.
The scope of the scheduling, which is extensive, includes the whole of the remaining outer circuit, plus, importantly, the earthworks on which the banked sections depend for support.
In addition, the Members' Hill, in its entirety, is scheduled. English Heritage took the view that there were too many individual features still remaining on the hill to record individually, so the whole hill was included instead.
Finally, all of the remaining Campbell Circuit has also been scheduled.
Looking ahead, the Brooklands Society Planning and Preservation Sub-Committee has now started work on documenting the condition of the remaining track, with a view to establishing a plan for its long term maintenance or restoration.
Good job too, we gnomes do not look good lying in front of bulldozers.

Seriously though, Cotty, this photo (Brooklands12) looks very much like a photo shoot for one of the very first issues of Top Gear Magazine. Is it?
Edit: Actually, it can't be. There's a Maserati GT and a Tuscan there, so it must be far more recent than that. In which case, just what is that Corrado doing there?

I am a member of the Lloyds Motor Club www.lloydsmotorclub.com/ which is not a one make club. If you work within the Insurance industry you are welcome to join whatever you drive which is why the Corrado is there and my 325i touring.
The pictures were taken on 29th June and there are a lot more on the Lloyds Motor Club site accessed from the front page.
The photo would have worked better if the cars at the back had been further up the banking but it still shows the variation of cars that took part

ps looking forward to tomorrow though, Buckmore Park sprinting in the morning and 3hour endurance in the afternoon all for £100

gnomesmith - Thanks for that. Maybe I was way behind or just got the wrong end of the stick.
As for what they've done to Hockenhiem(sp?) Why have a track that encourages overtaking and testing a car to its limits? When you can have a parade in front of more people and charge them more to get in.
