This thread is inspired by a guitar which quite innocently popped up for sale in my local rag, for, wait for it, 25 quid!!
So, number one this is by far the heaviest strat copy I've ever lifted! I'd love to know what this things made of! It's a lump!
Secondly the sound of this thing, oh my God! It's probably the best sounding Strat type guitar I've ever played,even all the genuine one's I've had, this thing just throws out Stevie Ray Vaughan on tap, and spoils you by getting a choice of three versions of his sound out of the 5 position pickup selector, the cheapest guitar I've ever bought and I'd say near the best, and I've had everything out there, here's a pic or two, pick one up if you see one, worth a try!!Small print on headstock is hot output humbucker

king hell! What an eyesore! One for the studio, I reckon. Squier Affinity Telecaster.
Bought new for £125 fantastic guitar. Properly set up from the shop perfect action, and a proper twang to it. I thought it was good but not that good a player myself, my dad however is a Locally known good guitarist and wont stop nicking it to take to gigs.

Richwood Tele copy. A friend gave it to me years ago and I used to use it as a back-up at gigs, but although it played quite well, it was dreadfully 'microphonic' and also picked up all sorts of weird radio signals (often from local taxis!).
Tiring of the interference, I took it apart and lined the cavities with copper film and fitted it with some secondhand Wilkinson pickups I bought for £23. While in bits, I dressed the frets and gave it a bit of a set-up.
Now it plays beautifully, sounds bliddy fantastic and I am loathe to part with it but need the space before we move house!

I have a two Squiers, both from the 'Classic Vibe' collection - a thinline Tele and a 50s Strat and honestly believe that they are better than the Fender versions I had in the past.Bought new for £125 fantastic guitar. Have to agree about the Affinity series, unlike normal Squires they 'feel' like a quality guitar when you hold and play them,which normal Squires just don't! Bought new for £125 fantastic guitar. Just thought of another guitar I bought once that was fantastic, and without doubt gave me the cleanest, glassiest chiming tone sounds I ever heard.
It was a Starfield Altar custom. Pewter finish, white pearl out scratch plate, maple neck,three Seymour duncan single coils and a Wilkinson tremendous all as standard.
Bought it when the first came out and it was a fantastic guitar! Nobody knew the Ibanez factory made them. Try and source one if you're looking for a really beautiful full clean tone,think they might be creeping up a bit in value though.

The Affinity is a budget version, just one step above the Bullet and below the Squier Standard line.That said, even the bullets play well enough these days, I think the only difference however stepping up to Affinity is a solid Alder body rather than, I presume, some sort of laminate
I quite like picking up cheap cheap guitars because you're not expecting much from them and it's usually a nicer surprise if you start expectations fairly low.
I picked up a second hand CGiant strat copy (found out later it's from Aldi) with a small amp for £25 off the Marketplace.
The body I think is some sort of plywood mixed with cardboard and something else.
I added a set of decent single coils and a treble bleed and it sounds great.
The neck is coloured wood. I dont know which wood, but it's been tinted to appear to be something more expensive than it is.
Either way, the neck profile is nice, after a setup I've recorded with it and you wouldnt know the difference between that and a £1500 Fender.

Once white, now red with a bit of relic work (not too well, but it was my first effort) it generally sounded nice n edgy but the neck wasn't easy or wanting to get good intonation. I had a mighty mite laying around which it what's on it in the pic.
I've have done a gig or two with it, alongside a custom shop Nocaster and it's quite usable.
I also got a strat from the same guy but that has been totally revamped with new pups and wiring, scratch plate, and a Fender mex rosewood neck. I painted that white with green guard and did a better relic job.
