Trade or sell 3 watches to fund a sub?
Discussion
Looking for some advice or a virtual slap....
I really fancy a Rolex Submariner date, unsure whether the 16610 or the 116610 would be the better option.
Anyway, i am to spend "no more money on watches" as the Mrs has said.
I currently have:
Omega Speedmaster Pro 2017
Omega Speedmaster Reduced 2005 (Just back from full Omega service)
Breitling Navitimer A23322 2005 (also just back from a full Breitling service, new sapphire & polish at a cost just shy of £900)
Do i trade some / all of these or sell privately? Or am i completely bonkers and need to stop?
My thoughts behind this... I don't NEED 3 decent watches, i like the idea of having 1 good all rounder and not be paranoid if it gets wet, has sapphire crystal so less likely to scratch, good in any situation....

The answer is simple. Of course you don't need three watches.
You need thrity. At a minimum. And even then there more months with 31 days than with less, so you won't even be able to go for a whole month without wearing the same watch twice. With twelve months per year, those watches are going to get some serious repetitive wear. One of them might get dirty, or scratched.<<shudder>>.
Now, you wouldn't tell her to stop buying shoes, or handbags, or marigolds and washing up liquid would you? Time to respectfully remind her that making important decisions about the house is your domain and the kitchen is her's. Now how about a nice cup of tea and some biscuits honey, there's a dear? Oh, bring me my slippers while you're at it please. [/1950]
Oh yeah, Rolex. Yawn, meh.

It's a slap from me but just because I really fancy a Rolex Submariner date, unsure whether the 16610 or the 116610 would be the better option.

. Just leave it a while, she will forget, you don'thave to get it now. I'm in the same predicament as i want a Pepsi but she doesn't see the logic as i have watches but i don't want to sell any of them.
Only you know the answer OP. Watches are such a personal thing but if I had this dilemma, I'd never get rid of a Navitimer or Speemaster Pro for a Rolex let alone both. I'd probably keep all three and save up for the Rolex if you want one that much. Just tell the Mrs that it's a cheap fake

I would keep the speedy pro and sell the other two. Speedmaster pro is my favourite watch so might be a little biased.
I'd do this too. Speedy Pro and a Sub would be an ideal 2 watch combo IMHO. Keep the Sub on the bracelet and keep changing up the Speedy onto various NATO's / Leather Straps etc.mikeveal said:

Hang on, does the house fit into important decisions? When I married my dear wife we made a solemn agreement that she would make all the small and day-to-day decisions in life, but that anything important would be my domain. 25 years later nothing has been important enough for me to decide on!Oh yeah, Rolex. Yawn, meh.
edit: keep the speedy, no one at all that would say anything other than praise about it or the individual wearing it.

Yes this is what i would do.
To think I would only have one watch to wear would not do for me.

It's a very fair point.edit: keep the speedy, no one at all that would say anything other than praise about it or the individual wearing it.

Similarly, my wife & I agreed that I would wear the trousers. Little did I know that I would be told what colour and style to wear, how to iron them, when to wash them, how to wash them, where to stand whilst I'm wearing them...

I would happily trade all those for a Sub date (but then I'm not a big Omega fan after owning a SMP and I've never been a fan of any Breitling, so probably a tad biased I really fancy a Rolex Submariner date, unsure whether the 16610 or the 116610 would be the better option.

)My 16610 Sub was the only watch I wore for 5 years, and for me it was THE covers-all-bases watch.
It was only the diagnosis of a skin condition that relegated it to the box (still hopeful of being able to wear it again one day)
