987 Won't Start - Steering Locked (It Actually Isn't)
Discussion
Anyone else had this problem? Put the key in and I don't get the "click". Instead I'm getting the words "steering locked" even though it isn't. I can put full lock on if I desire.
Because the car thinks the steering is locked, the car is basically dead. The ignition won't switch on.
Had it at Porsche two weeks ago via Porsche Assistance but the problem wouldn't manifest while it was there. They had it 5 days and it started up each time, the whole thing was a waste of time.
Now the problem has resurfaced and it will again be going to Porsche on the back of a tow truck. Hopefully the problem will continue long enough for Porsche themselves to see it.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and know of the cause/fix?

Have you tried shaking the steering wheel quite violently? Sounds like the ESL has jammed or gone U/S
Many times. The past few times, I've wasted several hours shaking the steering wheel around to no avail. It actually first happened around a year ago and on that occasion, taking the key in and out a few times and shaking the wheel around worked. Didn't do it again for 6-9 months so it seemed an anomaly.
Since last September, it's been happening more often and it is taking longer and longer to start to the point were I now just get bored or tired.
