Accelerating!!

I was out for a spin last night in my V8S and feeling bold, so I opened the throttle up on a nice straight bit of road, round to 5,000rpm

Strangely after a shortish run at these revs everything seemed to go better - the acceleration seemed to improve and pull more smoothly.

Does this sound like a blocked injector becoming unblocked? Or have I just blown away the cobwebs?

Yep, cleans out the cobwebs...

Does a car good to be used, as long as it's warm of course... also known as "the Italian tune-up"

Well it has certainly made a difference!! In future I will stop driving it like an old man .........and give it a bit more wellie (to blow the cobwebs away of course ).

A friend of mine used to run a Ford dealership, back in the days of the XR2 & XR3i. He told me that sometimes a car would come in with a fault & the best cure was to take it for a scream around the block a few times, they did it alot with the XR2's that were driven gently by older folk

It was certainly true of old Jags - in fact part of the service was to get them nice and warm, and then take them up to the red line a few times in various gears to clear everything out.

Must check to see if it's still done...

It certainly works for me ! I run upto the red line as often as possible.... of course this is just to ensure she's running well !!!!!

I recently bought one of those performance meters and going to give it a whirl on the S soon. Supposed to be pretty accurate so interested to see what the 0-60 and 1/4 mile are for the ol' gal'.

slightly non-S related but...just had my VW diesel MOT'd and initially failed on emissions with figures of 4.2/3.8/3.5 (max is 3.0). Chucked in some trade diesel 'cleaner' into tank - took it for a hoon using rev limiter in every gear for 20 mins - emissions then read 0.5/0.2! Biggest problem is the varnishes used in diesel these days which over time coat injector nozzles and prevent clean combustion apparently.
