sooo just figured i'd make a quick post as some peeps seem to do upon getting one of these, long story short i'm going through a quarter life crisis at 18 and i'm gonna be picking up a 4 speed 1983 Tasmin 200 in the next few weeks and was wondering if people had answers to a few questions i can't seem to find the answers to anywhere smile

First up does anyone have any good uk contacts for seat reupholstery? the driver's seat has a split you can fit your entire hand in frown

replacement door cards? or is it more of a DIY repair usually?

any roll bar suppliers with a cage designed for wedges or is going to be a custom job?

not just for the wedge forum goers but more of a general question, has anyone got any idea what colour the code "FI479" refers to? few areas which might need touching up and was hoping to be able to get a match for the paint smile

i'm sure i'll have a hundred questions once the car's been picked up so be prepared for the spam smile

are these cards in good nick and looking for a home perchance?

was that just a rip in the leather or a massive tear down the entire length of the back of the seat including the foam? i'm hoping it won't be too expensive but was hoping to get a ballpark figure for what i'm guessing is a pretty big job

thanks for the replies smile

Hi and welcome to the mad house...

Pics are always good but from what you have said..the foam can be glued together...however the material will need to be replaced...Is the rip in the front of the back bolster or the back of the seat?

imagine these are wedge seats, the tear follows that seam on the driver's seat closest to the door, hopefully it can all be glued back up for now

Welcome and well done dismissing the usual drivel the youth of today drive. Welcome to an elite sub club of the lower echelon of TVR ownership! There's not many of us 200 owners. Get some pictures up and let us see whet you've got.

The foam will be split there as the centres are pulled through to the back and secured...TBH its not a massive drama to remove the cover and get someone to stitch it...glue won't do it....

Surprisingly well actually, with 1 year no claims I'm gonna be paying about 30% more than I'm paying for my 0.8l Daewoo matiz, matiz having a tracker and Tasmin without a tracker, not sure how that works but not complaining biggrin

Grown up around old cars and work on MK2 escorts daily where I work so was a matter of time really Speed 3 smile and I wouldn't be against having a v8 wedge, possibly a 350i as I've heard that the cologne V6 can be a bit temperamental smile

Excuse my ignorance but I know very little about the wedges. The 200 I am assuming is a 2 litre engine and that looks a little bit like a Ford Pinto to me! is that right? if so surely they are quite tunable so again am assuming that TVR tuned them a bit.

Just looked them up and if Wiki is correct then that is a rare beastie indeed with only a few being made ..................... they say only 200 coupes and 45 convertables.

Now I am not normally keen on Black as a colour for cars but somehow the Wedge carries it off very well. Hope you enjoy you new acquisition and welcome to the fold of new TVR owners .............................from a fellow new comer. I pick mine up in April though have owned it for some months now have not even set my eyes upon as yet. Not a Wedge though i did consider a couple but ended up with a Chimaera. Being an old fart helps with things like insurance.

It is a pinto indeed, bombproof little engines smile although as far as I'm aware they're completely stock, it would've been nice if they'd put a mild cam in or something but I don't think that's the case frown and 16 coupe's 45 convertibles with the 2l pinto engine, 61 manufactured in total over 4 years I believe smile and I'm sure I'll have a blast with it, thanks very much smile ooh I hope all goes well with it, be sure to let us know how it is smile

Not quite bomb proof in fact were known for cam wear due to the oil pipe clogging up that lubes the cam. I had to replace the cam on my girlfriends in her Sierra. Most factors carried the cam kits in stock it was that common a problem. Of course Ford made it difficult by having the cam come out the rear so you had to take the head off or engine out to do it.

My own first car with a Pinto was a 72 Cortina Mk3 2000 GXL.

Am sure that as the Pinto was used in other Ford models and in racing that there are still places that can flow the heads and just noticed that the Pinto was a basis for formula Ford racing engines according the the Wilcox site:_

http://www.wilcoxengines.co.uk/pinto.htm

Interesting stuff there..
