Still considering a wooden steering wheel but unsure as to boss needed as don't know what column TVR used. Early (93) non PAS Chimaera so what boss would it need?

This is what your looking for isn’t it biggrin

I think the company who sourced and fitted this wheel are
Prestige performance or something like that,
In Loughborough but I can’t be sure.
Look them up online as they are known to work on a Tvr cars
Give them a call and they’ll swap it over for you. Won’t be cheap and over 500 incl new wheel I’d have thought. Does look great if your just floating about the riviera thumbup

That looks to be a Mk 3 dished with holes in the spokes which according to their site is £174 incl VAT but without boss. But right at this moment am undecided on style. OMP do some nice ones as of course to Nardi and of course China copies and even makes them for others to sell under their brand name so the choice is vast making it harder to choose.

I've got this Momo Indy waiting to be fitted to my Chim- it was a birthday present from my better half, along with a 15mm adapter ring to change the fitment. The 15mm adapter ring also largely accounts for the difference in dish between the two wheels.

My plan is to take the interior (below) back to a more retro look - already got the aluminium indicator stalks fitted, with the various other bits waiting to go on, along with a return to a wood-style dash.

Oi, that's my car! The pictures were taken by the previous owner in the summer of 2016 approximately.

I like it. smile

It was Moto-Lita provided the steering wheel and boss:

https://www.moto-lita.co.uk/steering-wheels/

£316 in Jan 2016 including postage for the wheel, the boss (£90 + on its own) and the billet cap.

You're correct in that PPC fitted it for the last owner but it was alongside a service so it's not itemised as to a price to do it. They're in Melton Mowbray.

I was talking to the previous owner via the web about the car just before you bought it. Was consider and weighing up between 3 or 4 Chimaera's this this was one of them. Ended up going for a restored 430 in Green. it's had chassis done, new windscreen and complete repaint and a new dash. So am thinking that a nice wood wheel would go well ............................................................. plus I happen to like them.

The hard part is deciding on which style, do I go old school with rivets? ............................ or more modern like the Momo shown? or perhaps more modern still like I had in my Green MGF VVC with wood and leather? ......................... though of course that one had a air bag on it.

I’d have no choice but get Dash made of the same wood as the wheel, if it doesn’t match I think it looks a bit naff to be honest, but matching wood, now your talking. thumbup

New outriggers, recent respray (Olympic Blue) and canems conversion all great. Only immediate job last summer was the handbrake warning switch which was tricky. Drove great, BUT 3 months after I bought it, I more closely inspected the wishbones thinking it was only surface rust. Oh dear. frown

Ended up with a full front set from Powers Performance, so.... while I was there, ended up having the wheels stripped and powdercoated, new tyres, new track rod ends, drop links, ball joints and refurbing the suspension. Just recently stripped the cracked veneer and used 3M carbon fibre effect wrap on the dash, stripped the seats and set to them with a Woolies trim kit. It never ends does it??

Though my 430 had a lot of work done and stuff replaced before I bought it Heath suggested that it needed new shocks so she now sits on new Bilstins all round then he went through it and serviced her and supplied and fitted new ceramic leads, Bosch battery, new LHD headlights and sorted a few little niggles and set her up by the time we had finished it came to quite a tidy sum.

Now from looking at the photos her steering wheel, black leather, is not in bad condition but do think that a nice wood one will lift the interior.

I think you’ve covered most things and the car sounds well prepared.
Drive it all day when you get to England, on more than one occasion, if everything is as it sounds it will be no problem for you or the car.

Ear plugs might be a good idea on such a long journey across the continent. I found stopping every 2-3 hours for even just a few minutes revives you, these cars are hypnotic from the engine vibrations.
I also really enjoyed burbling through foreign service areas and the confusion the car causes, you make friends everywhere you go smile
You’ll have a great trip and possibly fall in love right there biggrin

This is the wheel that I sourced, originally offered by the dealers as an optional extra. Manufacturer is Nardi and now extremely rare to find, but the benefit is that it fits on the standard steering wheel boss.

Am waiting to hear back from someone selling a Momo with that shaped spokes but in black not polished. As my 430 has black rimmed dials it should not look out of place.

Some sellers seem to think that their steering wheels are made of pure gold the prices they ask for used ones.

Anyway all I can do now is wait and see if the seller responds.

I'm trying to source the correct boss from Mota-Lita...nightmare....you'd think they have never provided a wheel for a TVR before....asking me to measure/count splines, depth, tapering....

Does this look right?

https://www.scparts.co.uk/en/moto-lita-boss-kit/34...

It seems some bosses are hexagonal and some are threaded depending on the car...not sure which it is for 1996 TVR?
