A former family friend gave us these recently.
What a total fking travesty of taste!
Thorntons oil & sugar collection would be a more fitting name. Absolutely disgusting.
I attempted to eat two. Second one I spat out into the bin. The double sugar praline I think it was? A nut had never been near that thing.

I warn you now, avoid like the plague. Still, a great reason to get back on the diet.
If you want to replicate the effect, just wash down a tablespoon of sugar with some mazola.

We have a Thorntons close to work and get loads as gifts. They all taste the same and are rank.

Thornton have been rubbish for an age.

Used to be my mum's favourite (alpinis) and my gran's (Brazil nut toffee). Sad decline.

I honestly don't know how they manage to survive. Over priced rubbish IMO.

Give me a box of Milk Tray anyday smile

Agreed - utter tosh.

The toffee is lovely though.

It is typically what happens when the price of cocoa is so high that you have to reduce it and replace with rubbish. Cadburys is also the same.

Always used to take a box of Thorntons when I go to see my Mum, she loved 'em!! Or Used to!

Now wants a box of Roses or Milk Tray. Still crappy chocolate but way better than Thorntons!

Manufacturers seem to take a decision to use cheaper ingredients and think we, the customer who keeps 'em in business, won't notice the difference!! Idiots!

I'm not sure the Thorntons recipes have ever really changed, however we are now spoiled for choice with higher quality chocolate manufacturers large enough to have their own shops (Hotel Chocolat, Montezuma). I know Thormtons have been hit hard by this but seem reluctant to change - perhaps through fear of losing their main market of consumers who've grown up with vegetable fat in their chocolate to mellow the flavour. Anyone remember the incident about 8-10 year ago of a Thorntons director being caught on CCTV crushing chocolates in a branch of Hotel Chocolat ?

were thorntons not in a lot of financial difficulty some years ago? i assume they cheapened things then. i agree they are awful chocolates. rather have a milk tray/black magic/all gold/whatever the nestle milk version was if eating cheap choc.

All the big brand chocolates are disgusting now.

I make my own these days. It's not difficult, just a bit time-consuming.

if I had to buy them I'd go to one of the artisan makers like Wm Curley or Paul A Young.
