Some advice from the experts please. After washing with shampoo and rinsing/hosing off the bodywork, I usually use a chamois leather to dry off the bodywork (prevent streaks etc) but some car cleaning places seem to use micro fibre cloths. Any thoughts on pros and cons?

I take it you mean drying, if so a quick spin around the block beats them all.

I use a drying towel, quicker and easier to use IMO.

Microfibre drying towels are the way to go. Don't actually need to go for anything fancy, just machine wash them after you've used them.

I tend to use 3 towels at this time of year as it's trickier getting the car dry with it being cold.

Just go for something like these, I've just ordered another four as after a while of using and washing they tend to go stiffer. Then just retire them for drying the windows/wheel.

Leaf blower is your friend, so long as you're indoors and relatively dust free.

When washing my dads new 323i (e36) with my brother, he used to take it for a 'drying spin', which was a quick blast up to Esso roundabout, dab of oppo before taking it the long way home down the bypass.

Seemed to do the job. Although I prefer microfibre clothes....

I was told (many years ago) that a chamois takes the wax off and never to use one on anything but the glass, as a result of my gullibility I have been using drying towels for years.

Thanks all - I’ve given it a go with the micro fibre and seems to work a treat

I have a couple of household bathroom towels that are washed without conditioner that dry the car a treat. It was a tip from a detailer a few years back and works well.

Don’t forget to clay bar the car after drying.

Leaf blowers do a good job i've read.

Always tempted to buy one myself to dry off, it's easier if you have wax or paint protection.

I have a pretty pokey leaf blower and it makes a rubbish car drier...

I've been using autoglym aquawax... and some microfibers...

Start up a leaf blower and all the dust in your garage will be everywhere. Try a hairdryer!

Seems a waste to dry it then clay. If I really wanted to do the lot I'd wash, clay (with car still wet), dry then polish and wax.
