Must do all three well, purchase budget £1500, mods for track days (brakes/suspension/other mods) can come later... So cheap to buy, plenty of space for domestic duties, and the potential for fun on track....

Any suggestions chaps? smile

Toyota Corolla TSport. You can get good ones for around £1000 or so.

You don't have to spend much to make them turn-in rather than wash-out - just a pair of camber bolts for £20. EBC Yellow-stuff pads (I know - not the best, but cheap and effective) and a set of -40mm springs for £120 and they are impressive for an old shed.

Overfill the oil a little to avoid oil starvation for track time and change the gearbox oil to help the synchromesh.

Nice suggestions! I didn't even know they had made a V6 turbo Vectra!

I think it's almost a given that the Fords will be less wobbly though!

Just bought a Honda VTI, B18 powered for just over your budget.

Let you know how the first track day goes, but tip run #1, and shopping run #1 was a success.

I was gonna recommend a 172/182 but i saw the tip runs bit and assumed it would be a bit unsuitable in that department.

I suppose it depends what size stuff would need shifting round and how much of it there would be!

How often do you go to the tip? Should it really be a factor in deciding what car to buy?

I had a day off yesterday so hired a van and had a clear out. Cost about £60 (including diesel) and took 3 trips as opposed to probably 10 times that number if I'd not hired the van.

When I went down to one car, I worked out I could hire a van once a month for diy trips, and still spend less than the cost of tax, ins and servicing of a shed that sits on the drive for most of the month. Fuel would be even.

I do live near a van hire place though, and my tip give a bit of extra agro for vans.

Unless you are doing some major renovation project I think the tip car might be a compromise too much.

You guys are quite right, tip runs could be better planned and a hire van used (or even a friends van for a few beers). It's mostly garden waste I take to the tip (have a fairly large garden). I recently got shot of my Golf which was a great shopping trolley and tip car, but was also used for picking up timber and other items such as trellis for ongoing projects in and around the home. So really it needs to be something with 4/5 (foldable rear) seats and a hatch rather than a boot.

Have to say I'm liking the six pot three series compact idea smile

Thanks again for the input fellas....
