BMW X5 3.0D 245bhp model 2010 / 2011 / 2012
Discussion
Any owner reviews here for this particular model and engine?
Actual MPG figures would be useful and also any common faults other than expensive consumables..
Is this pretty much the same engine as the 635d (286bhp)
The ones i'm looking are 2010 / 2011 / 2012 / 2013 models
The newer 2014 on 258bhp version has impressive performance and mpg figures but is a fair bit more expensive at the moment.

It’s the single turbo, so 330d/530d equivalent, not the twin-turbo x35d. Sorry.
Also, don’t get confused by BMW’s clever marketing of ‘TwinPower’ Turbo - it’s to do with manifold design rather than (just) number of scrolls or number of turbos - If I remember correctly, this confused a lot of people, so much so that the most litigious nation on earth even tried to bring a class-action lawsuit!
No actual experience of running one, but if you look for 530d reviews & knock 10% off the figures for X3 weight/xdrive, you’ll be in the ballpark IMO.

Selling a 2010 30d M Sport shortly, it’s just in the dealers for a warranty repair on the lights. It’s an AUC car so has remaining 8 month BMW warranty and assist on it which is transferable and extendable.
Super comfy car, the best family car we have had for sure. Only change of job circumstances means daily motorway commute won’t suit it.
PM me for more details and MPG wise 28 on a regular cycle is doable.

As far as problems go it’s usual fair for the 3.0d engine - swirl flaps can be an issue I believe and obviously there’s a lot electrically going on with them.
One thing to look out for and could be myth but not worth trying, BMW recommend ‘*’ rates tyres only and some who have veered off this path have encountered diff problems but it could be forum scaremongering.
The rear seals on the inner pair of rear lights (on the boot) are rubbish and let water in causing the light to corrode and fail, that’s what mines in for now. Over £500 in parts plus labour - thank god for warranty!
Rear suspension is self levelling air springs, over time and with age they can fail/leak meaning a pop sided X.
Panoramic roof can cause issues, drain holes block and water finds its way inside. Also mechanism can jam and there are fixes but lots of people report leaving it broken in closed position so if you look at one with pan roof try it out extensively.
Not a huge amount E70 specific, like any car that was once £££’s to buy it will still cost £££’s to run so seek out a good warranty and go in with eyes open.
I had an ML320 before and X5 is far better in comparison. There are some desirable options to be had so keep your eyes peeled!!

I have a 2012 30d M Sport. We’ve done 55,000 miles from new and mpg is steady 27-31. Tyres are well expensive as we’ve stuck with Bridgestone runflats, but they do about 22,000 miles.
Fantastic cars! I don’t think it needs more than 245hp, very sporty with that. Get loads of stuff in the back or people with the seven seat option.

2010 onwards model is with the newer N57 engine and it doesn't have swirl flaps problems.
I have mine since new, currently it has 240K km/150k miles on the clock and is driving well. The engine and gearbox are bulletproof. Expect some sensors to need replacement. If it has rear air suspension, the air springs will eventually go bad. From my experience it will reach 150k miles without any major problems. The maintenance is expensive.
