Going to my fathers Solicitor as he recently passed, now the will included an estate of about £750k net of inheritance tax so how much will the Solicitor charge for there service to wrap up say 10 different share holdings, 3 bank accounts and the sale of a house?

Is the solicitor appointed as executor in the will? If so they may have scale fees (a percentage of the estate). If not, ask them for a quote and then think about doing it yourself if you are the executor - it isnt hard.

I got a monster quote and did it myself. It's pretty straightforward, you send death certs to the institutions concerned. They all have established process.

It shouldn't be difficult to do it yourself unless there's something like foreign assets, joint holdings (not H&W) or companies involved.

...and watch out for solicitors charging a percentage of the house value AS WELL as a percentage of the estate. Perfectly legal, most don't do this double whammy, but two of our relatives solicitors did!
