Hello All,

I’m new here and seeking a bit of advice for waxing my car. I clean my Tungsten Silver Golf using Autoglym Shampoo & Conditioner and sometimes the HD Shampoo they also do. I use a grit guarded bucket.

I wanted know if I can wax the car without using autoglym super resin polish first? Would this affect anything. I currently have the extra gloss protection which I apply but I notice people clay bar and polish before hand.

I enjoy cleaning but just don’t have time to clay bar and polish. I just want a good shine with some protection too. Can I get away with a expensive wax only?

I hope someone can advise on the matter

Yes no problem.

Srp beforehand tends to hide some of the swirls/scratches due to fillers in it.

But no problem with just wash then wax.

yes you can do what you say.....bit like the mrs putting make up onto a dirty face though

although youve washed it , the polish will gently remove traffic grime and give you a nice base for the wax , so worth considering if you can polish it

Thank you for all advise,

I can understand the make-up analogy

How often do you have to polish? Can you over polish and damage the clear coat with SRP?

I know the SRP bottle says every three months... could you re-wax only in between this?

Cheers

SRP has virtually no cutting power. Applying it by hand would see your arm fall off before the product itself had any detrimental effect.

AG stuff is ok but you can do a lot getter if you get Keen on detailing.

So I'm not the only one who uses that analogy. smile

I'm assuming you get your AG products from Halfords in which case have a look at getting a clay mitt from them too. Using a mitt to clay your car only takes a little bit longer than washing it. Once you've washed you car wash it again but with the clay mitt & you'll notice the difference. You've then got a clean canvas for SRP & HD Wax.

Wouldn’t wax a car personally until the paint is absolutely clean, which means claying it, and preferably a polish of some kind

Rubbing in polish on contaminated paint will only add to the swirls.

super resin is VERY mild , theres no real risk at all of wearing away the clear coat

how often depends on the use of the car , for most folk once every 6 months would keep it looking nice

also worth loking at a clay mit...cheap and easy to use , no wear to the paint and will make the results better

I tend to do a full decontaminate/polish once a year, but top up wax every few months.

Wax wont make car shiny, polish will because it will reduce clearcoat scratches/swirls. SRP will hide defects but not for long, but with a wax you'll get a few more months of protection out of it.

I did a seal on my VW passat before winter, job was wash>clay>sealant (Lack nano)>Fusso 99

Probably better to learn about this from the peeps on detailingworld forums.

Hi All,

Thank you so much for all your advice. I will sort a clay mitt from Halfords. I do indeed get all AG stuff from Halfords. I tend to use the HD Shampoo.
