So you have this great picture of a historic racing car being used in period

The car and it's original paint finish survives to the present day

Sympathetically restored

Is it definitely the same car? There are a lot of detail differences.

According to the vendor it is... I'm guessing the 'in-period' photo featured a lot of developments which had been added over the years and the bodywork was returned to original specification during restoration (apart from the tasteful paint job, the nice little 1950s/60s pin striping, the signwritten name on the back etc)

The 'restored' car has been raced quite a bit in its present state as you can see all the scrutineering stickers on the rollbar

P.S. What is it?
Found it, an Elva mk5

Truly hideous. Looks like a typical Yankee restoration, it's all about the shine not the originality.

Though not the same colours as the car in the old pictures, I would have thought that was a fair representation of an American racer in period.

I agree. Though I always like the American style race numbers too.

Oh sure, lots of racing cars were exported to the US and painted all kinds of funky colours over the years. My issue with this one is that it appeared to survive in its original livery for over 60 years, at which point it is no longer merely a British racing car in the USA, but a fully fledged historic car made unique by the way it's worn its years and been developed.

I dunno, I'd have done it differently.

Supposedly "returned to factory original specification" but a quick Google of Elva mkV shows the opposite. The body was far closer to original when it was in it's blue livery, partially fared in rear wheels and nose on the blue car appear to be as it left the factory. IMHO it's been modified to try and give it a competitive edge, shame.
