3k on a hatchback with a 1.6litre engine
Discussion
Strange criteria, why nothing bigger than a 1.6? A turbo 1.6 will usually put out more power than a non-turbo 1.8 or 2.0 so why exclude bigger less powerful engines?
It’s virtually impossible to make a sensible recommendation with so little information, what are you looking for in a car, what are your needs, do you do a lot of miles, etc. Without that it’s basically just a game of “what about this?”, “no, that’s not right because of (criteria that no-one knew about)”

For some reason, I can't get decent quotes on anything above 1.6 litre. What i'm looking for in a car is something that is going to last me a couple of years, quick and just a fairly decent car. I will mostly be using the car for trips to and from my college once every week and once or twice to and from the golf course. My apologies I should have clarified that in my original question. It’s virtually impossible to make a sensible recommendation with so little information, what are you looking for in a car, what are your needs, do you do a lot of miles, etc. Without that it’s basically just a game of “what about this?”, “no, that’s not right because of (criteria that no-one knew about)”

What about a Corsa SRI? The 2007 model had a de-tuned 1.6 turbo from the VXR, i believe, but with 150 bhp.
This is what I am looking at at the minute, they are cheap enough to buy and insurance is very low, so thank you for suggesting this.No problems mate
