F10 535d saloon future values affected by G30?
Discussion
hi gents
im considering purchasing a 2015 or 2016 535d msport saloon with all the toys
from the bmw AUC scheme.
my only concern is will my prospective purchase be worthless in a year or two once the G30 becomes more common on the used car forecourts.
werent the last of the 535s heavily discounted new?
I would love to hear your thoughts
thanks mick

Given BMW are not making a RHD 535d/540d/550d the only choice or biggest diesel is the 530d.
So if you want a faster version it’s petrol you’d have to select.
Assume 25% year on year depreciation from its opening worth each year and it should be roughly right.
535ds are not common either so it’s the top of he RHD range of diesel and will remain the fastest and most powerful for at least the G30 era.

Buy it correctly and you'll be fine, just don't get suckered in by fully loaded or the quoted list price as new, both are meaningless to the trade when they buy and therefore meaningless to you when you buy.
Two cars side by side identical in every way but one has optional say surround view HUD ski bag heated steering wheel. Would they sell for the same? Or would one sit there for a much longer time than the other mickyspec said:
i had hoped the new march G30 registrations might see some more choice on the AUC ,and some price reductions ?
Doubt many people change a what £40-60k car after 6odd months of ownership the bath will be painful and these are not special cars they are family tools big Luxor Cars no need to change so soon. Welshbeef said:

i am inclined to agree 40 to 60k seems insane when 20 to 25k will buy a nice 2015 f10 535d What price are you looking at?
You can pick up ex BMW Employee G30 530d or xd on AUC for around £33-£35k now. Big step in quality and still faster & more economical than old F10 535d and should hold a better residual if a concern. The ex staff cars usually have a 3 or 4 packages which is pretty much fully loaded.
That'd be my pick personally.

Basically that’s what I did when buying mine nearly 4 years ago. It had just arrived covered in filth and bird droppings but there she was(not even on the website) then the realisation it was utterly loaded in options too). Especially as I’d gone here with the same cash to buy a F30/31 330d M Sport it’s inca different league of car. mickyspec said:

Yes it will shed value quite quickly when G30's become more plentiful on the used market - which will be quite quickly as most of the AUC come direct from BMW's fleet (ex management, ex rental etc) - and they appear at circa 3 months old.im considering purchasing a 2015 or 2016 535d msport saloon with all the toys

I speak from experience - I bought a very late (2014) E93 330d - and in the 3 years I've owned it, its shed 60% of what I paid, which was a little over 60% of the list price at only 9 months old and only 3,000 miles.
You've been warned.
Mind you, you'll lose nearly as much on a G30 - BMW residuals (and most volume cars) are all pretty shocking these days - probably quite similar to Ford/Vauxhall back in the 90s

Two cars side by side identical in every way but one has optional say surround view HUD ski bag heated steering wheel. Would they sell for the same? Or would one sit there for a much longer time than the other As an example I had 2.5k worth of BMW M performance carbon fibre trim on my old M5 at trade in they said take it out and replace with the trim it came with as we won't give you anymore (I sold it privately for 1k) same when I sold my 911 they said keep the winter wheels and sell them privately we won't give you any more (I sold them privately for 2k)
Lots of options can make a car more desirable on the forecourt but that doesn't mean you'll get back anything more at the point of trade in, private sale perhaps if you get a punter that simply must have that spec but try finding him/her.
That's why when you lease a car beyond optioning the essential extras you start to have to pay the full price for them divided over the term as they don't add anything.
I bought my Dec 2016 520d M-sport F10 at a 30% discount brand new, a G30 equivalent in March 2017 would of cost £10k more. Don't forget the road tax increase in April 2017 making cars before this more attractive to used car buyers.
14 months from purchase with 7k miles my car has probably depreciated 20% at trade in price.

Here you go...
Battle : 530 d (G30) vs 530 d (F10) vs 535 d (F10) vs 535 d (F10)
Amazingly enough, there’s not a lot in it. Surprise!

I think you'll find its a bit more than that.14 months from purchase with 7k miles my car has probably depreciated 20% at trade in price.

Taking your example...
Original RRP 520d M Sport £36,865
You paid (-30%) circa £26,000
On your estimate the current trade in would be (-20%) circa £21,000
The bad news I'm afraid - low mileage (<10k miles) are being retailed by BMW dealers for less than £21k, so I would guess they would have paid no more than £16-17k for them
It's quite savage out there - new cars are ever more expensive, and used ones shed value faster than ever before.....
Which is why everyone wants to lease these days I guess...

Was this not the car listed in your profile? It seems to have pretty basic options - I had pretty much the same options on my F11 535i (standard BMW management car tick boxes, perhaps?) and it felt sparse.Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
