Hello everyone,

it is my first post here so please be kind smile

I bought a Porsche Cayman 718 last November and I think there is something wrong with it.

A couple of weeks after receiving the car, I noticed that it was pulling to the left. Initially, I though it could have been because of the "side slope" (hopefully this is the right term) but it got worse and it clearly was something wrong with the car, not the road.

In December, I brought the car to the Porsche Reading dealer, where they decided to carry out the tracking, free of charge. I attached the picture of the document they handed me at the end.



The car was ok for a couple of weeks, then it started pulling to the left again.

In January, I brought the car back to the dealer because of a problem with the infotainment microphone and I also asked to check the tracking, again.

The "microphone fix" took 2 days and when they handed me the keys back, nobody mentioned the tracking, so I asked. "Everything is ok with the car" they said...

As soon as I lift my hands from the wheel, the car goes left. I wouldn't expect the car to drive itself perfectly straight but at least to keep the lane for a while...

I didn't have any accident or had any sort of impact on the wheels. I can't explain how a car can lose the tracking so quickly.

It can take a while for parts to settle - springs, joints etc. How many miles has the car done?

If it's done less than 1000-1500 miles I'd wait a while then take it to a geometry specialist to get it properly aligned. I had mine done for £99 so it's not expensive.

I forgot to mention, the first tracking has been done at 1600 miles.

The car has a little bit more than 4000 miles now.

It should be settled now. I'd take it to a specialist and have it done "properly" and go from there.

Porsche use Hunter equipment don't they? So surely even someone with a small amount of knowledge can get it driving straight.

Yes a specialist is needed for setting a car up properly but as far as getting it going in a straight line its fairly simple on decent equipment.

True, but Porsche tolerance of settings is not very exact. I'd take to a specialist to get it spot on and if they find something significant wrong then that's the info you need to go back to the OPC with.

This is possibly a stupid question, but have you check the tyre pressures?

My RR was pulling to the left, it went to the local LR dealership twice for them to check (and fix) the tracking - both times it still pulled after they'd sorted the tracking. Thought I'd get a 2nd opinion, took it my local tyre/exhaust centre and they said they'd had this before, and it wasn't the tracking it was the tyre pressure in the front nearside wheel - changed the valve (£10) and its fixed. I can't believe the dealers had it twice and didn't think to check the tyres.

As you can probably tell, I'm not technical and never even thought to check my tyres - so potentially my scenario is a bit noddy to the average petrolhead who no doubt would have known to do this - even though my dealership didn't smile

If it was a tracking issue and it's pulling real bad it must be out a lot. I would expect to see uneven tyre wear in 4K miles if this is the case.
Is the steering wheel centred in the correct position when going in a straight line, if so this would suggest it might not be the tracking.
As suggested already are the tyre pressures correct?
Unlikely but possible, I would also suggest swapping the front wheels around, if it then pulls the other way the fault is in the tyre.

Get the castor checked. It has this effect if its not equal side to side and is more involved to set than toe and camber. Go to a reputable suspension specialist for an independant view.

I forgot to mention that a week after I got the car, I also got a nail in the rear left tyre which was replaced by the dealer with a new one. I had 1600 miles at that time so the dealer said that only one tyre replaced would have worked.

The tyre pressure is perfectly even across front and rear. I though it could have been that too.

If I point the wheel straight, the car goes straight, it just can't keep it if I don't hold it in position.

Swap the front wheels around from side to side, forget the rears they are wider wheels. It's possible you have a bad tyre on one side.

most are directional now and all would have worn in, so it prob make things worse.

I would say rear toe is back out again, I do hate the bolts that do rear toe, it's a cam bolt, I always buy locking RSS bolts to lock it solid and fit adjustable rear toe link with yellow markers on every thing so you can see if any thing has moved, if it's bee geo and it was ok after, I would put money on one of the rear cam bolts moving slighty.

I think too many people are looking up front for the issue, when imo it's the rear toe now doing that sort of movement.

I could be wrong but that's my thought/
