Morning folks!

That nice Mr Branson chap emailed me last night offering me a completely free V6 box. DIY install to collect from a local shop in 10 days.

I hear it's not as good a platform as the SkyQ, but gift horses & all that...

Question. Some reviews online tell me I can keep my existing recordings, but the Virgin T's&C's say I might lose them. Has anyone done this move & knows the real story?

Mrs Fang is very attached to her Nashville & Modern Family y'see.

Any advice gratefully received.

Many thanks, CF

Unless there is a way I am not aware of, when we swapped about a year ago we lost anything recorded on the TiVo

i think this is a big roll out as they will be cutting off the old old carded boxes from HD sports at some point in the not to distant future, you might get stuck with a box that cant access all the media available, there is also the danger if you don't change then in future if you have to change they will change you.
Its all to stop all people who get all the channels on Virgin for free, they blocked sky last year so lots of people jumped ship.

Is the V6 version the 4K UHD model?

We were promised the 4K box as a free upgrade when our TiVo model started playing up. Got home from work and they’d swapped it for the newer model of the old box instead. Gits.

Yeah, always my first thought.

Call and double check, if you outside if contract/nearing the end call up and say sky are offering you everything for £10 cheaper. Probably get the new box & a discount...

BT tried that st on my very elderly grandad, contract ran out, offered him brand new does everything router if he stayed. He "agreed", price nearly doubles, locked in for another 12 months at double price. Rang them, gave them hell, they listened to the recording, confirmed he didn't actually agree, cancelled whole thing.

From a technical, performance and features perspective, the V6 box sts all over the Tivo boxes. They're like night and day and I haven't looked back.

Yeah I almost went in for this free upgrade but had a wobble when I couldn't get a clear answer on whether or not this would tie me in for another 12 months (my initial 12 month price is due to almost double soon...)

Yep, similar interface with a few tweaks but lightening quick, I really struggled with the TiVo, it did my head in because it was so slow and clunky.

Apparently if you have a 2 box plan and replace the 2nd box with the TiVo, you can access the programmes recorded on the TiVo, on the TV6 box but I've not yet worked out how, TBH though I'm not that bothered as it's all the crap that my wife taped.

It is much better and faster than the old TiVO - quieter as well!
It does do 4k but you will have to get the 4k content from Netflix / iPlayer
Interface if similar the TiVo you will be used to

They both need to be connected via a LAN cable (not wifi) we have it set up and if you goto 'recorded programmes' there is a link on the left side to the other TiVo box.

Ahh, thanks; TiVo is now installed upstairs and TV6 is downstairs and as none of the recordings are mine, I'm sticking with "it can't be done".

I thought it could be done over wifi.

Thanks wainy. Not sure if they want the old box back, so we'll wait & see. If they do, it's not the end of the world. Chs, CF
