Don't have any mates personally - Billy no mates, me. smile

Being a misanthrope's usually the cause. Most people are c**ts. smile

Oh and, when I was a permie (self employed now), I never did have a best chum - all my colleagues were s.

I suspect that Ferrari had it right, in that the only love, or true mate if you will, is from a man for his son.

Not one person, but quite a few very good old friends that I have had for decades, and who would be there if I needed them, as I would for them

I have a work wife. We spend a lot of time together, we bicker a lot and we don't have sexual relationship. Much like the real wife really.

Nope.

They might expect things in return and I can't deal with that kind of commitment.

Key is to avoid getting too close with anyone that would actually be of real interest, the flirtation tends to build up and it becomes a put up or shut up situation.

I used to have a work wife, we’ve not worked together for a few years now but are still very close

We meet for lunch regularly, have nights out together and collectively with other ex-colleagues, we meet up and take our daughters out (who are close in age and oddly look like sisters lol), we message each other most days

Currently helping her start her own consultancy business

Probably sounds worse/more intimate than it actually is

I fking hate that thing. Fortunately, my place has just moved to a different one which seems more sensible than asking 12 questions once a year that will only reflect how bad a day you happen to be having that day. Pointless!

Had a work wife until I changed jobs to work from home. Was bloody brilliant! Someone who, no matter how ste your day was, would just look at each other and instantly feel a bit better about life because you knew you both had the same thing going on. Now I have a real wife who, no matter how ste my day is, still insists on trying to talk to me about it.

Lol ... depends if you like petite slim blondes

We’ve both had plenty of opportunities over the past decade to over step or further our work wife/husband relationship but neither of us has

Yes, but she's now my ex-work wife.

When we worked together she'd be in touch with my wife to remind me to do/get stuff. I'd get nagged, she'd spread her mess all over the office, use my stuff, make decisions when I wouldn't - I was senior to her in name only!

We are still close and we still go out for boozy afternoons.

For all she's a lovely girl with all the "right" features, there is and never has been any attraction. She's one girl out of a load of brothers and is a classic 1990s Ladette.

I've another ex colleague. I see him a couple of times a year. On the face of it we are chalk and cheese, but from the moment I took him for a pint after his first day with us, we've been the best of friends.

I can be a grumpy sod, and he has the ability to make me laugh at any situation. We pick up where we left off and we find one another rib-hurtingly funny. His life is like a bad British comedy film.

There is a very serious side to us. The other week I needed another point of view on something. An hour long phone call and I had a clearer view and a plan. He does the same with me.

Every year we try and have an AGM - a day out where we chat about the important things. For all his confidence and fun he has a lot of "stuff" going on in his world.

I'd not be without either of them as friends. I love them dearly.

I've got a best mate of 30 years, since school. We have as much in common as we do not, and we speak on the phone 3-4 times per week. His wife usually calls me when we are out on the falling over juice to check he's OK ! Bizarrely, we both have brothers, who went to the same school as us (his a year older, mine a year younger), and both of our brothers met eachother for the first time only last year !

I covered North America from 2004 until 2017.
In 2012 a new girl started in the US office and we hit it off straight away.
We travelled all over together, trusted each other and our skills complimented each other's.
She would introduce me as her work husband.
I would introduce her as a lesbian smile
She had a good phone friendship with my Wife.
Miss her very much. frown
