£100 voucher though, for something that is very very old and has served its time. A fire 7 is only £60. I’m happy.

i guess the worry is whats next, how long before the code out play1's over the new one or gen1 play5 gets obsoleted, IF you can get away with it then it makes business sense to obsolete old product, you would have to weigh up PR vs sales.
In this case they dont offer an alternative so its unlikely its been done to drum up sales. Unlike Apple who start to slow products down as they age

[Hopeful Opportunist] Has the iPod dock been retired with a buy-back voucher?

I happened upon mine this weekend. I don’t even have a compatible iPod for it.

I have a CR100 in a wired-in charger mount on the outside wall of my en suite, it gets used most days frown
I could replace it with my CR200 but its days are probably numbered, too.

I think the CR200 is already gone (from what i read on the sonos forum). I think the fact that its one voucher per customer not per cr100 has upset a few, one guy had 7 in his house and had just had new battery's fitted in all of them.
I think something like the ipod dock (a cheaper simple way to get audio into the sonos network) would be a good seller, as would a cheaper connect, it takes the piss that you can buy a chromecast dongle with way higher spec for £30 over the enormous £350 connect. But people keep buying it so ....

I bought a few Chromecast Audios when they were at £14 in Currys but after countless failed attempts to integrate them with my Sonos, I gave up. The Sonos is about a music-bar behind the CCAs in timing terms, presumably to ensure all of the Sonos network is in time with each other, whereas the CCAs just play music as it arrives.

There is no doubt that the CCAs offer great quality music. I think they will become more popular now that the Google Home Mini is out there.

Not the same thing these chaps are on about. The CR100 is a dedicated wireless Sonos controller. Saves you using a phone. They stopped selling it a few years ago now.

My CR200 was still working on Friday biglaugh

I will be sorry to chuck - I mean responsibly recycle - it, it's a real quality bit of kit and works perfectly. And being touchscreen they could in theory keep updating it but I suspect they won't bother.

I can see the anger over the one £100 voucher per household, that's mean when the most affected are those that bought in most. I only have one CR100 though, new battery a few months ago, doh!

I have eight cr100s as well as a significant number of amps/players/ speakers.
I am typical of the people who adopted sonos early on as the cr100 was the only control option at the time.

I still use the cr100 in a lot of places I wouldn't want to use a phone/tablet. Guests can use it without needing access to my network ( I have a guest WiFi but sonos is on my main network)

I have no objection to them not adding further "updates" but I object to them bricking a lot of expensive tech that still works. They have not bothered to give an option of locking out uodates and those of us wanting to do this are struggling to block ports / domains on our routers etc. Very poor behaviour by sonos.

The cr100 uses sonos net not WiFi so is a tech amazon / apple etc don't use so I believe this is an act driven by a possible sale rather than a tech issue.

At the time the cr100 was about £300/350 so that is a significant investment in hi-fi equipment before we factor in the additional cost of the amps etc. I'm sure anyone who spends that expects a long duration of use.
