CGT on equity fund as non-UK resident
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm at that stage of trying to get all my ducks in a row with regards to retirement in around 20 years time.
All of my equities and retirement funds are currently in Hong Kong, where I am resident, and have been for several years.
Does anyone know of the tax implications of buying into a fund or two in the U.K.? I can't open an ISA due to residence.
My understanding is as a non-resident, equity gains aren't taxable. So, what can I expect to happen? Will they report any gains and make me claim it back through a self-assessment? Or is it the other way round; nothing to report and nothing to pay?
I'm interested in the UK as fund management fees are quite high - 5% on initial investments, and 1.5% a year is typical.
Thanks, all.
