Just a couple of curiosity questions regarding Sonos stuff.

One. A pair of Sonos Play 1 speakers or a pair of Sonos One speakers for a home that is more Siri and Apple Music than Alexa.

Two. Playbar or Playbase under the main Tv.

Three. Can you connect a KEF Kube sub to the playbar/playbase?

TIA

One. No point in the Sonos One if you have two for a stereo pair, get the two Sonos Play 1's cheap and use a Amazon Dot.

Two. Playbase is the newer device so presumably will not be updated too soon.

Three. No you can't Sonos sell their own Sub and want you to use theirs.

Point 4. Buying a Sonos 5.1 system is very expensive now, have you considered a Yamaha AV Amp with music cast and normal speakers for the living room? Then some small much cheaper WX030 speakers for the rest of the house?

That was quick, thank you.

4. No I hadn’t. I currently have a Sony STR DG 910 Av amp into some kef Eggs and the Kube Sub. I know you know a fair bit about this stuff so can you advise me?

Yes Yamaha Music Cast is an alternative to Sonos and the others.

With the recent price increase of Sonos it’s making the others more viable. In my opinion Yamaha offer the best over the others including Denon Heos. The Yamaha app is better then Sonos now I think plus has airplay and Bluetooth both of which Sonos doesn’t.

Yamaha sell two small wireless speakers that work like Sonos Play 3 and 1’s. They don’t have one that I believe is up to the power of a play5 though.

However a WX-030 their biggest wireless speaker is £154 in curry’s! That’s a lot cheaper then Sonos.

This amp a mate of mine got has music cast and is Dolby Atmos compatible. An absolute bargain in my opinion.

I’ve had a Sonos Play 1 for quite a while and thinking of expanding but have never been convinced by the audio quality. I’ve just had the opportunity to get another play1 or Yamaha WX010 for free. Rather than another Sonos to make a stereo pair I ordered the Yamaha to do a comparison. Also thinking of a sound bar and it is more likely to be a Yamaha. No clue which mind.

I’ll post back when I’ve done some listening.

Apple Music integration within sonos is terrible, a real second class citizen. Lots of functionality isn’t available.

I’d say the Sonos One would be better, as it will soon have Airplay 2, which apparently the Play:1 won’t get.

The sonos app used to be amazing and the real gem was the multi service search. Unfortunately that’s languished and now the focus seems to be on directly controlling via each services app. Good for functionality, but you lose one of the main benefits.

Any views on HEOS for multi-room? I've just shelled out for a Denon AVR-X2400H today as the first stage of something that I plan to add some HEOS 1 HS2's to at a later date (once I've sorted the initial speaker setup.) I did buy it with home cinema first in mind, multi-room second but the various components seem to get good reviews.

I've not tried multiroom yet - I can't without the appropriate speakers - but the basic app for controlling the amp seems well put together, and getting an Echo Dot to play music through it is simple as any other BT speaker. I'm a long way from scratching the surface of what it can do but wouldn't mind hearing the collective views on Denon/HEOS as a multiroom setup.

I was mooching about Curry’s today looking for the Sonos stuff but they didn’t have a playbar/base connected up.

But I did see one of these.

SAMSUNG HW-K950 5.1.4 Wireless Sound Bar

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-and-home-entertai...

Now it sounded awesome. Loud and delicate if that makes sense. I know nothing about them but is it an option? What is the Samsung Wireless Audio 360 Smart Sound system?

I can’t give any advice on Samsung stuff as their warranty on screens is soo bad in comparism to others in our industry I usually avoid them.

I can do some digging on Samsung sound systems if you want but I suspect not as good as Sonos or Music Cast or even Denon Heos.

Not sure if relevant for the OP but have had a couple of hours listening on a Play 1 and WX-010. Source is 320k MP3 files on a NAS.

The Play 1 is the better of the two so far. I wondered if TruePlay tuning on the Sonos was responsible for the improvement so turned it off. Sure enough it was making a difference but it’s still better. Since I can’t describe why I’ll let this review do it for me. Wish I’d seen it before.

Need to try with other sources and get my sound engineer son to have a listen.

Yes I could, but in also thinking aesthetics, and ease of use for the kids too .... especially as I grow the system to all rooms.

The Sonos stuff is quite addictive , when my second muso had to go back I changed horses to a couple of play5’s and a sub , now I find my time being spend trawling facebook market place for bargains , got a new play3 for the kitchen and one for the bedroom and only paid £150 each , now after a few play1 to put outside (in a weather proof enclosure) . The simple way you can just keep adding is brilliant and it’s so easy to use ! I think the quality is great , my play5 and sub sound better (to me) than a mates kef ls50 and expensive amp !

I'm wondering about the HEOS stuff as well.

Richer Sounds have just dropped the 2400H to £349 and even though I have quite a bit of Sonos kit around the house HEOS do a 4 channel amp/distributor for stereo pairs of speakers which is tempting.

As someone else has said the Sonos app at the moment is starting to waiver a bit I feel with constant updates and changes which is starting to annoy me a bit!

I wonder what will happen with the Sonos vs Heos court case ! Probably nothing but Heos did pretty much rip Sonos off then add some features !
