Giblet I am looking at you.... others feel free to join in.....

For my sins in a previous life I will be spending some time in Leeds and Bradford

Being a southerner I want to try some of the local delicacies bearing in mind I’m staying central in both locations where can I get.....

The best Parmo.... have to try one
The best munchy box

Not looking for total filth I am looking for quality. On top of that suggestions for decent -

Fish and chips
Kebab
Curry
Thai

Are there any decent all you can eat places?

Anywhere really unusual to try? Think London restaurants hidden behind phone boxes or themed as detective agencies etc

And finally....

Apart from the typically obvious gut rot 2am sthole.... anywhere to specifically avoid?

Hotel districts.... pedestrianised centres etc. Just eat that will deliver to those kind of places. Nowhere way out of town as flying up so no transport

I spent some time in Leeds a while back. My favourite restaurants, if that’s what you’re after included....

Chaoprayha - Thai restaurant, just really good food and on Deliveroo too. Restraurant always vibrant and busy.

LivinItaly - Staple for anyone staying in DoubleTree Hilton or other central hotel. Cracking Italian place, again a good vibe but never felt out of place when dining alone. Never had a bad dish and tried a lot of the menu!

Blackhouse grill - Decent steak, again never had a bad meal and a nice place to be.

Worth walking 10-15 mins to a good place, do some research - Leeds itself is quite small so a stroll along the canal or to a different area never takes long.

Yeah restaurants and take aways. Sure the take Aways will be better for parmo kebab and fish and chips

I haven’t been up there for about 17 years so guess all the eating places etc around granary square are new.

I am hoping whitelocks is still there too as a place to drink

Wahey. It’s grim up north!

For parmos your best bet is Sicilys. They usually have a discount available via their own website - www.sicilys.co.uk and are pretty consistent.

I’ll do some research on munchie boxes and will get back to you, not seen that many advertised.

As for all you can eat places there are a few generic ones in Leeds city centre but they are average at best, Red Hot World Buffet is popular but not my cup of tea. If you want something more upmarket then check out Fazenda - https://fazenda.co.uk/leeds/ for all you can eat steak. I went before Christmas and it was as fantastic as always.

Fazenda is good, you may need to book, though.

Red's BBQ is nice as well, in my experience.

Trinity Kitchen has a range of options, bit mass market.

http://www.thecatspjs.co.uk/ is highly rated, again, high end.

Fish and chips - this is a can of worms. Not much available central but the best in my experience is the chippy next to the market. It used to be a Graveleys but is now The Fishermans Wife.

Kebab - loads of cheap options in town especially down New Briggate if you want a typical greasy elephant leg. I’d suggest getting a taxi to Venus in Holbeck, it’s a Turkish supermarket with a cafe attached and they do proper Turkish donner. The mix grill is decent there too.

Curry - a few central options but Aagrah and Akbars are the usual suspects. I prefer Aagrah out of the two. Tharavadu do some good veggie stuff, and Bundobust have a decent street food type selection along with a long list of beers.

Thai - I’m a fan of Sukothai but I’ve heard good things about Chaophraya.

For drinking in general you are spoilt for choice. What’s your poison of choice?

The I wouldn't call cats PJ's high end. It's nice though.

OX club at headrow house has been cracking both times we've been.

Thai Zaap can be great for a speedy, tasty treat for a good price.

Hansas on North St otherwise, a long established local favourite?

Or for a gastro pub, The Reliance a few doors down?

Yet to try Ox Club, mainly due to their rules of no group bookings for blokes on match days. Annoying as we tend to grab a bite to eat in town before a Leeds game so it would be ideal.

I didn’t enjoy my last experience at Zaap, in hindsight I shouldn’t have ordered the fish of the day. Pizzafella across the road from there is decent and reasonably priced.

Fujihiro is great.

A cab to Bradford runs via a range of massively impressive curry houses near Owlcotes centre.
Most are cash only so beware.

Some great steak places just opened and also some new Thai places, all in the centre near The Light.

Italian try San Carlo’s food is outstanding.

Some new chains and independents in the new Trinity centre, there’s a good little food court.

Street food in the market during the day, I wasn’t that impressed by what was on offer having tried a couple but could just be my taste.

Kadas mediterranean (with Shisha pipes) if that’s your thing, nice fresh food.

There will be loads more, don’t get in that frequently due to nippers now but plenty of choice. Always check on trip advisor or similar as places can go through changes quite rapidly etc.

Zaap Thai - always been good but I am quite conservative in choices... apparently the place across the road is equally good..

Pizzafella was good the one time I tried just after they opened.

San Carlo if feeling flush and wanting Italian.

Almost Famous best burger for me (far, far superior to Reds IMO) closely followed by Nation of Shopkeepers thats probably a nicer place/vibe for me.

Grill Pit in Wakefield (12 miles or so south) is the best BBQ place around in my experience.

Great greek food and kebabs / gyros and souvlaki from the mad greek at chapel allerton , they deliver too. For a sit in Fish and chips i would say Billy Murgatroyds at yeadon just before the Airport. Also try the amazing turkish kebabs from Venus food market in Holbeck , real authentic charcoal grilled stuff there.
I also agree with Giblet r.e. Sicilys and the parmos, always been consistent. I dont think i know anywhere that does munchie boxes to be honest. Oh and for A brilliant curry try the shish mahal on kirkstall road , just opposite the showcase cinema complex. Always top notch.

Thanks so far fellas I knew you would dig up some decent stuff.

The only miss so far on the lists is Reds bbq that’s a shoreditch export in your direction hehe

I will be staying first time I’m up there in granary square now last time I was in Leeds if you were in granary square you were balls deep in a prostitute / buying or consuming your drugs/about to be murdered or already dead. A lot must have changed in 15 years hehe

The one opposite The Library pub? It’s gone downhill massively since it changed owners. Caravanserai near Corn Exchange is superior.
