HID Headlamp Upgrade Kit

Be careful I have read somewhere that retro fitted HID lights will be failure in new MOT rules coming in April this year. Will try to find it on the net.
They have always been a mot failure if it doesn't have self leveling kit on the headlights, and headlights washers. Will the tester notice? Probably not so I wouldn't worry

Should be pretty self explanatory, the HID lamps will plug in to the black leads and looks as if the red plugs are for the power from your existing headlamp connection.
Most are listed as plug and play but you may need to modify your wiring slightly for the power connections.
Cant make out what lamps they are from the picture but they should be the same fitment as your existing ones.

I have already heard of an OE HID equipped car failing due to one inop headlamp washer.
There is a reason they are banned, as the focal point of an HID is not the same as a filament lamp, so the focus is all over the place and very inconsiderate of other road users. They are also very obvious to passing plod due to the light colour. Just buy some nice Philips Extreme Halogens or Osram night breakers and stay legal and decent to other road users.

True in the past certainly, but they probably will notice now that HIDs have been the subject of a new special notice (for May 2018?).

Just had a read of the new manual, HID's will only fail if self leveling system doesnt work (IF FITTED) OR if manual adjuster doesn't work at all, see also headlight cleaning washers for HID's must work IF FITTED.I have already heard of an OE HID equipped car failing due to one inop headlamp washer.
If your manual adjuster for the headlights works and you don't have headlight washers, it will pass

Are you sure?
The TVR headlights are type approved for filament lights anyway, so anything else that's fitted is defiantly light source not compatible. Obviously MOTs don't check for type approval which is where it all comes unstuck, but do you really want to be branded with the same stick as all the chavs in their old Golfs / Clio's / Corsa's illuminating passing satellites as a TVR owner anyway?
Hid bulbs need a projector lense to stop unwanted focal points and the colour temp of the bulb should be 4300k as that is the proper white light with no blue tint as fitted in a factory install.
The issue with headlamp washers is only if originally fitted they must work and they must have a working automatic levelling system or a working manual levelling system.
I used to own a Mk2 Astra with headlamp washers which worked sometimes and never failed an mot and I also have a classic Range Rover that’s never failed with non working headlamp washers.
Just don’t fit hid or led bulbs in a regular reflector type headlamp as they will fail an mot.

Are HIDS same as LED ?
HID - High intensity discharge- uses a very hot gas to produce light. Power wise these draw about 30 watts power draw so more efficient than halogens and require a high voltage unit to boost the 12 volts from the car supply - these are modules that are separate to the bulb..LED- light emitting diode- Technically this technology is moving very fast, the issue has always been getting the heat way from the diodes as heat destroys them, so that why you have a fan or big heat sink strapped on the back of the bulb and run on 12 volts quite happily. These are around 10w power draw.
In both cases, even with the best engineering out there, the light producing part of the lamp is not the same shape and size as a halogen filament, which is why they do not focus correctly in headlights designed for halogens.
