Watch Insurance
Discussion
I am up for renewal next month and currently with Bradford & Bingley, I do not think they are any good but I had real trouble getting someone to insure my watch last time.
Any reccomendations? £5450.00 list price Sub ND.
Bearing in mind I am 26 years old.
Hope someone has a good specialist company they use?

I’m with axa, they’ve got 3 different levels of cover from which you can choose, the middle level that I have covers a single item up to £10k - which, weirdly enough, covers me - a 26-year-old with a list price no-date sub.
When I was doing price comparisons, a few companies let me list the watch as a ‘high risk valuable’ and it bumped the price by a few pounds in my circumstance. I know insurance is rather a postcode lottery these days.

You won't need a specialist company to insure a Sub - just add it as a specified item on the existing contents insurance
^^ this. Not sure why your age is relevant at all.andy tims said:
Hiscox.
Not the cheapest, but good cover for watch collectors because you don't need to notify anything under £15k

but you do need to give them a total value of jewelry and watches, and specify any single item over 15k...
Anything over 15k they will add terms that it needs to be on your wrist or in a safe to be covered.
Seems fairly comprehensive cover too, round the world etc
I would definitely recommend Tesco Bank Home Insurance.
Talk to them over the phone rather than using their site, they are very good and definitely competitive.
I'm not a fan of specialist watch insurance companies. Just a waste of time and money.
I have over 40 watches.
All insured with Tesco, as individual items on my Home insurance.
Also have them insuring my safe as a whole for an agreed value, which contains the highest value items.
They are also covered away from home anywhere in the world, whether being worn or simply transported. (ie holidays, etc)
When ive asked around, I pay around £100 more annually than most peoples average price.

As mentioned above, do check the wording of your policy....
We were burgled a few years back and, despite having the platinum 5 star policy the insurers pointed be to clause 241 sub section IV that 'items of a precious metal, unless being handled, must be kept in a strongroom'. Soooo, teaspoons, golf trophies (very few) etc? Also I was not required to have a safe or asked about it when taking the policy out. They refused to pay, I sued and won.
Bit of a ramble - but just to make the point about checking the wording carefully.
