replacing rear trailing arm

has anybody replaced the rear trailing arm on an S2 , as mine had been repaired by welding and has failed the mot , its the drivers side and it seems like its hard to get a new one and i would sooner do it myself to keep the cost down , i should be ok with the hub nut as i have a very large torque wrench and socket, so are there any problems replacing it ...

Maybe, because they are shimmed up to get the right
toe in.

What do you mean by 'replace'? You planning to repair the existing one, or rebuild it, or looking for a new one?

Repair is down to your welding skills and the extent of the damage. Adrian Venn has (or used to have) jigs for these so could probably rebuild for sensible money, or you may be able to buy replacements from the parts container now this has resurfaced. Alternatively, Tower View made some uprated replacements for mine when I broke the originals.

well the rear trailing arm , the big bit needs replacing as the one on the car had a plate welded over a hole on the tube that runs from front to back so i need a new item as the mot tester said it was not allowed , which is fair enough , so are you saying that i can get a new one if so where can i get a right hand one from and hopefully with bushes fitted. ian

www.tvrcarparts.com/ have the S parts stock from the factory, and some dealers may have their own stock.

I had mine replaced last year by Austec Racing. They were ordered from the factory. As they were not a straight replacement they BOTH had to be replaced.

They cost between £250-£300 each (if memory serves).

I changed mine a couple years ago and found the following:

The factory dont make the fixed S2 one piece arm anymore, however the S3 version with a gap for shim adjustment will fit, this is what i had.

This means however that you will need to replcae them both. I think you also need to have adjustable shocks to compensate for the difference.

LeeBee on PH sorted me out & did a fine job.

I have a passenger side S2 arm that is good & serviceable, but not drivers, as this is the one that had holed.

thanks guys for the help , and after seeing my car next to the other TVR's at silverstone tvr i think i will be going back to chimaera's or perhaps even a cerbera as it did look a bit old but then that was next to a tuscan and a sagaris , note added and after trying just about everywhere for a new item and finding that nobody has one for at least two weeks have decided to get the ols one refurbished by exactly tvr in coventry once i get the old one off , they will refurbish it for about 162 quid , which is not bad considering a new one is 219 , i would have had a go myself bit dont have a jig to align the fitting at the end.....
