so i got 3 points and 100 quid fine for doing 36 in a 30 (thought it was a 40)

all paid no problems but why do they want me to send them my photo card licence in? its not like the old counterparts where they add the points so why do they want it? or is there a chip inside the photocard?

i thought maybe id purposes but I've already given my driver number on the nip and then they've sent it to me to pay?

i don't have any more than 3 points and yes i was a very naughty boy and deserve hanging

Quick Question for you; why are you asking the same question that you asked on the 1st of Feb?

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

"Well sent my form off and got the actual letter today so that’s 3 points and a £100 fine ffs

One thing I don’t understand as I have the photo card why do they want me to surrender my licence to endorse it with points? Is there some form of chip in the photocard??? I could understand with a paper licence but don’t get it with photocards"

BTW, you said you were done for 37 mph, come on man, precision!

It's a statutory condition of the Fixed Penalty process.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think if your licence is not received by them by a certain date your money will be returned, the offer of a fixed penalty will be removed & it gets taken to court.

I don't know why they want your licence but they do, so the reason doesn't really matter, it's part of the process.

Does it matter why? They do. You aren't going to change it or get some exception by making a principled stand. All that'll happen is that the offer of the FPN will lapse, and you'll end up paying a lot more and possibly getting more points.

Pistonheads at its very best. Simple question asked, noone knows the answer. So tell the op the question doesn't matter and the answer won't do him any good anyway!

I've wondered about the same question myself, but don't bother to ask pH any questions these days. Not worth the effort.

But the answer is - nobody knows.
It is part of the process, obviously a fall-over from the days of paper licenses.
Do they physically have to see the license to endorse with 3pts? No.
But do you have to send the license in, as part of the process? Yes

And in answer to the above, Indeed, if you fail to send your licence in then you have failed to follow the procedure as set out in the fixed penalty offer and they will refund your fine and take you to court.

Maybe they need to change the statutory process then as they are so keen to avoid bureaucracy to cut costs. (See abolition of paper discs and paper licence counterpart)

Maybe they do.

But it won't happen in time for the OP's FPN this time around.

Yeah was just a question as I can’t really understand why they need it

Seems pointless and a waste of time

Yeah unlikely to change unless it affects an MP/politician or their close family/friends or maybe I'm just cynical nowadays smile

No because no doubt it will be a £10 a minute phone number where you press 1 to be messed about 2 to be messed about and then go through 10 different menus until you speak to someone,

So thought I’d ask on here as there’s someone that usually knows everything and then it’s free!

I don’t particularly care as I’ve sent it off on Monday recorded delivery i just wondered why you had to submit it and wondered if there was a chip in the card or something

You have the correct answer from Stoofa.
They have yet to revoke the law that says you have to send your licence to the Fixed penalty office despite them not needing it in any way shape or form.
That's direct from the girls at Loughborough Fixed penalty office whom I see every week as we deliver the mis-addressed payments.
