Minecraft Xbox 360 split screen question / problem

My 9 year old daughter called me today with a problem on her Xbox that I can't work out (I don't live with her so I can't just have a look at the console).

It sounds like, yesterday, while playing on Minecraft - her cousin wanted to play with my two on the Xbox on Minecraft. He "changed some options and settings", so my daughter says, so all three could play together and that was that.

Today, however, when she tries to play with just her and her brother, they can't seem to because the screen has gotten in to a bit of a mess as below.

I've had a look on my Xbox and even connected 3 controllers and then just one and then just two and I can't seem to replicate the problem.

I've Googled it and can't find anything that this might be and I'm a bit stumped - not being in front of the console isn't helping, but I've no idea what to check, change or look for.

My son is a bit upset as they play together quite often and they can't seem to bypass, cancel or move past this screen in a multiplayer form

Does anyone know where the settings for this might be or what I can do to get rid of it?

The cousin is 9 and the chance of him knowing or remembering is about nil....
