Volvo V70 D5 SE
Discussion
Morning Guys,
After a long time lurking, I've finally joined as i'm after a bit of help. After seeing a few people on here with V70s and praising there reliability etc I set about looking for one for my next car. I understand the Euro3 (pre 55plate) is the engine to go for ? Having seen one for sale fairly local that has had various work done recently on a 54 plate with 170k Full service history and a Auto box, I know high mileage in these cars isnt usually something to worry about but is this a bit too high with an auto ? as the manual seems the much stronger box, also a lot more economical but its proving much harder to find a nice manual one. Any help or things to look out for would be appreciated

The Euro 3 can also have problems just like the Euro 4. Don't quote me but I think the Euro 3 can have EGR problems and with 170K on it that may be a problem.
I have a euro 4 2.4D S60 163, been mapped to 220 and it is brilliant. Done 60K since the remap with no problems. Brilliant car, engine is a peach and pulls like a train. Get around 40MPG on the trip computer which I would say is around 35mpg which isn't bad for a 220BHP car.
With manuals there is the problem with the Clutch slave cylinder. I have been told it WILL fail. Mine did at 70K, brake fluid light came on, started to weep out of the bottom of the gearbox. Gearbox out and when it was out DMF and clutch was also replaced at £1000. So check this on manual.
Mine has the DPF, as long as you do the odd 15 mile spirited run you should be fine.
Apart from that no other problems with mine and at 122K it still drives like new.
I've been looking at new cars but I am loathed to sell the S60 as it is brilliant, if I did sell I think I would get another D5.
