What's this all about? It's been on there for months yet sometimes it lets me on and sometimes not.
There are ads on my screen, yet when I click on them I get 'Sorry, this content isn't available at the moment' everytime.
I'm not using a phone.

No idea, it works for me all the time, too often in fact, as I invariably click on the button for it on my phone and then in attempting to go back to the main menu, find that I've clicked on an advert and then receive notifications that "similar items are available in my area" when I didn't want to look at a crappy old sofa in the first place

Maybe you have to be on the phone as the marketplace uses geo-location to decide what ads to show you?

It worked on Saturday on my PC, but not now and I haven't changed anything. The problem with FB is they don't seem to have a manned help centre, if something is wrong you're pretty much buggered.

Having exactly the same issues on my phone. That said FB marketplace is a massive PITA anyway. Has so much potential but it’s not executed very well and the search function is terrible, not to mention the lack of a proper interface to manage your own ads.

I think it depends on where you are. Certain post codes near where I live are just a list of things they just stole from the shops. That’s a large city though. If I use my own post code things are more legitimate.

Funny enough whenever I open the market place on my phone there is a particular local seller who lists 5 or 6 different sale posts of 'genuwin' track suits, jeans and polo shirts by the big name high end fashion brands. She has photos of all of them in their plastic bags (you know, the sort that the big names NEVER use) and can get you any size and colour.
And as they are all real and 'ex-stock' apparently she can sell them for only £6 a shirt.

She must be getting quite annoyed when facebook keep taking down her sale posts

Lot's of locked iphones that the sellers have very unfortunately lost the box and charger for too!*

There are loads of genuine sale posts of random stuff you would usually find on ebay, but Blown2CV isn't far off the truth with his statement.

  • These phones are pretty much always being sold by people who live in a nearby town where you wouldn't want to go out of an evening. In fact even during the day it's never the first choice if you need shopping of any sort.

It's very hit and miss, but I have found some real gems on there in terms of vintage furniture.

Actually, just last night I agreed to buy a Chesterfield Club Chair.

Lots of tat, but I just tend to search for what it is I want.

Yep, I live near the palatial resort of Tameside and so my local Marketplace ads reflect the above. I never thought anyone could fit into the market below Gumtree but they have managed it.

Also good for picking up the new fivers and tenners for £100. The blurb is of course that AK03281284712 is close to AK47xxxxxxxxx which obviously everyone is after.

The st people try and sell is unbelievable.

What brands are typically knocked off? I've never used Facebook Marketplace for buying or selling, only for occasionally looking in case someone has listed car parts I'd be interested in.

I've got a five pound AK47
and this morning I got a ten pound BJ.

Both pretty good value, I reckon. smile

i'd struggle to see why anyone would bother to check the serial number (or whatever it's called) on their bank notes.

I've got a mobile phone and a smartwatch on there at the moment. The usual chancers and swaps appear and then I had someone who seemed interested in the smartwatch (Sony Smartwatch 3 BTW), after I'd told him everything he could have found out himself asked if he could try it out for a week before buying it (you can guess what my reply was!)
