Juddering Shuddering vibration from the back, differential?
Discussion
Hi
Audi TT MK1 3.2 4WD petrol 2003 144,000miles DSG Automatic
The Traction-control warning light came on, take to a garage, said it was a clock spring / SLIP RING / 1J0959654M
Changed the clock spring / SLIP RING / 1J0959654M, light still on.
A few weeks later there is a Juddering / Shuddering when you pull off, and shuddering/vibration from the back end. Which is Worse when going around corners uphill, at low speed, on uneven roads, you can power through it and at high speed, it seems ok.
Anyone else had this?
Could it be -
Haldex ECU (limited slip differential control unit)
differential
Haldex valve
Love driving this car, but on a limited budget so any help would be welcome
Thanks

Honestly, I don't know how you get from the traction control light being on to replacing a clock spring. Neither has any connection to the other.
I would get it scanned by someone who knows what they are doing.
You can pull the fuse for the Haldex and see if that has any impact and stops the juddering.

"Juddering / Shuddering when you pull off," is a clutch problem.
You don't quote the OBD code, and I had to look up what a "clock spring" is on car, and that ain't nothing to to with either clutch or differential!

But that isnt to say there was not a problem with the clock spring....and steering angle sensor if that is related to it, could well impact on control of other functions like a 4wd system if it to has computer controlYou don't quote the OBD code, and I had to look up what a "clock spring" is on car, and that ain't nothing to to with either clutch or differential!

Although perhaps not the problem in this case
And were any codes pulled via proper equipment, or cheapy OBD only...which all too often lead far far astray

Hi all
Car was scanned by a well-known large local garage so would have thought their ODE would be top of the range. Will get it scanned some wear else as a second opinion and ask for the code.
Car will not start if the Haldex fuse is removed.
A scan tool is only that...a tool. It takes more than a tool to diagnose faults, and not all tools are the same. And that tool may not be what is needed to fix this problem....largely it's knowledgeCar was scanned by a well-known large local garage so would have thought their ODE would be top of the range. The "clock spring" assembly has a steering angle sensor built into it which is part of the stability control system and is a common cause of ESP warning lights. They do need a calibration procedure to be performed after replacement however.Mr2Mike said:

I am aware of the steering angle sensor but didn't realise it was part of the clock spring assembly. I thought it was a seperate sensor on the steering column. Thanks for clarifying.Gassing Station | Engines & Drivetrain | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
