I have an unopened bottle of Ricard which is at least 25 years old.

Looks beautiful & clear when you tilt the bottle so after all these years is it drinkable?

Sensible answers please.

She hates Ricard & Pernod so I guess it’s up too me.

Water, blackcurrant, lemonade or neat?

In 7 years of bar managing I have never sold a single shot of Pernod or Ricard!

If it's tonight just drink it neat.

If it's for breakfast then add a bit of water and ice.

I haven't seen a bottle of Ricard for many a year. Drink it, it will be fine.

Just the one litre then?

You'll be absolutely fine in the morning if you drink all of it and brush your teeth with the dregs.
It's the second bottle that leads to hangovers.

And hopefully will stay that way - Pernod have owned Ricard for a fair while now but have kept the brands separate and distinct.

Still have a bottle I bought in Aix-en-Provence in 2014. Once in a while I may fancy a refreshing glass of it, just add a bit of water to it and some ice and it's a nice refreshing aniseed drink, not as harsh as Pernod IMHO. smile

Just had a look in the back of my drinks cupboard and found this one, special edition from 2004

Am I a Philistine? I like it mixed with IrnBru, tastes like Cough Candy sweets.

I doubt whether most of my customers would be able to spell Ricard let alone know what you do with it!!

I emailed Ricard over the weekend & they have replied saying depending on how the bottle has been stored, upright, out of sunlight & in a constant ambient temperature, it should be drinkable so long as it is consumed within 12 months of being opened.

So we will see later in the week.

I thought the actual 'Pastis 51' brand (which I think is another now owned by Pernod) was the original alternate to absinthe and all the others were 'copies' ?
