Does anyone know if this style of art / painting technique has a particular name? Blocks of colour and minimal shading or gradients. It is almost low-poly. For example:

Also used to great effect in Tim Layzell's amazing pictures.

Thanks

No idea, but hasn't that been used on a Monaco GP or Le Mans poster as well?

I like it, but maybe that's my simple mind smile.

Puts me in mind of Tamara de Lempicka so (according to Wikipedia) an art-deco blend of late refined cubism and neo-classical.

I have no idea what any of that means after the word "so".

I believe it's called vector art. Done well, it's a brilliant art form. If you are familiar with the Grand Theft Auto games, a lot of vector art is used in their work.

Hint of 30s Art Deco in there as well.

Not sure it’s Pop Art, as you’d see the same style in Art Deco travel posters and Russian propaganda art of the 1930s, which predates Pop Art. Plus Pop Art tends to be bolder in its imagery, and more limited in its palette (think Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Patrick Caulfield). You’d also see this type of look in modern works of Retro Futurism. So think this probably isn’t an art style per se, as the results of a technique (or mimicking it), namely screen printing.

Btw, not exactly the same, but if you like this sort of flat colouring, check out the extraordinary work of Laurent Durieux:

Tim Layzell specifically states his version of this is in the PopArt genre ... but I admit it is probably a likely hybrid of Art Deco as well without a specific title to itself

Patrick Nagel (the artist who did the iconic 80s album cover, Rio) also gets referred to as a Pop Artist although I never thought it really fit the genre either.

Wiki says “Pop art is an art movement that emerged in Britain and the United States during the mid- to late-1950s. The movement presented a challenge to traditions of fine art by including imagery from popular and mass culture, such as advertising, comic books and mundane cultural objects”.

Whilst arguably the style of some of these artists is similar to (or even based on) Poster advertising, it’s not including it per se. So I’d call it Graphic Art personally.

I think 67Dino has summed it up best, it isn't pop art or vector shading, it is more of a stylised take on art deco concepts.

That's fine technical detail of how it's produced, not the style.

Youi need to get those hung up. I know if your short its tempting to put stuff at low levels so you don't crane your neck. I get that. But your running a risk there of them getting damaged from the radiators heat. Also it might be different at your place but when stuff falls down behind the radiators it can be a real pain getting it out. Once had a pair of underpants stuck there bout half way down. Got them out eventually but still a pain.
Great pics though just get them hung up

They were only put on the cold rad to take a photo. They are on separate walls so not easy to photograph together.
