I'm sure this has been discussed before, but can't find much. promise!

I'm thinking about doing a track day in somone else's car this summer. Would like some of PH's recommendations. Criteria are:

1. Not too far from South East. Would travel as far as Midlands I suppose.
2. Don't want to do 2-3 laps in a supercar and be told "not above 4k revs" etc
3. Something that could accomodate 2 people, want to take my better half too.
4. Up to £300-£400.

Was thinking along the lines of:

Learn track in hot hatch, move on to 'interesting coupe', then supercar (Lambo, Porka, Fezza) and possible something raw (Exige, Caterham etc).

What does everyone think? Asking too much? Anyone know of companies that do this?

TIA,

Nathan

Personally wouldnt recomend any 'experience days' (except bedford which is way over your budget but excellent), ive done snetterton, silverstone, thruxton days. IMHO they are all really lame.

if you mean 3-400 each there can be no substitute for booking a trackday and hiring a caterham for the day

I had my suspicions that most of them were lame.... shamne really.

When you say hire a Caterham, I take it that's something one could do at the track? I had considered those slalom days at Brands, as it's only 30 mins away...

"Sell MINI, buy Elise/Caterham for fun/track and cheap nail for commute."

You know it makes sense

About a year ago we bought a present for my
daughter's partner.
It was a day at Mallory Park driving various cars;
starting with instruction in a SEAT Leon Cupra
or whatever they are called, graduating to a Caterham,
then to a single seater of some kind and ending up
in a single seater Vauxhall Lotus.
It was within you budget and he had a good day
with a decent amount of track time.

Think Francis means hire somat like the bookatrack caterham for a day at one of their track days, think Don does this a bit, somat like £500 for the car for the day so can split that in two if with ya other half.

Yup.

Go talk to Jonny at Bookatrack. He will sort you out with a Caterham and a track day and an instructor. Its a LOT more laid back than an "experience" and you will get literally hours of track time. "Open Pit Lane" is the best value...but if you are a novice you might ask about a sessioned day.

Depending on whether or not there is a deal to be done this will eat up your budget nicely...

At least you will finish the day with a grin on your gace, absolutely knackered and not wanting to drive any more - instead of grumbling about how few laps you actually did and how most of the time was spent....wasting time.
