Noticed an odd ticking sort of noise coming from my front wheel on my road bike, it's a disc brake bike but it's not the disc brake rubbing and it almost sounds like it's coming from the rim, rather than nearer the hub, although it's quite hard to tell. It does appear to happen twice per full revolution of the wheel.

Wheel is a Reynolds Strike SLG carbon disc wheel. It doesn't appear to cause any issues and the wheel still spins very freely....just not sure what it could be. Any thoughts? If needs be I can try and upload a video, although it is pretty quiet so not sure how well it'd be picked up.

Cheers

Could be, I've just taken the wheel off and manually turn the wheel around (holding the wheel in both hands) and it still makes the noise.

Anything to worry about?

Thanks

Could be loose bit of carbon from when they cut the spoke holes in the rim, I had that in a set of carbon wheels before (Reynolds as well) .

Hmmm, never noticed it before though. It doesn't sound like water sloshing around....who knows confused

Nope, I've tried rotating the wheel whilst holding the valve stem and it still does it. It's pretty quiet, but it's noticeable....but nowhere near loud enough to be noticed when riding...

Had something similar with the wheels that came with my old Defy. I never found anything but just assumed it was bits of alu from where they'd punched the spoke holes.

I had a similar sound coming from the front wheel on my Giant Propel, turned out to be a loose spoke, so after a quick re-tension at the LBS, good as new. Still irritating though, as it started making the noise heading to the start of the Prudential 100!

Problem found, and solved, above 10 mins ago! I went to take the tyre and tube out to see if it was inside there..... But upon taking the valve dust cover off, a load of air had come out..... The valve had somehow worked its way open! Never, ever had that before.

I tightened it up (having put a few more psi back in there) and hey presto (or rather, hey presta) no more ticking noise.

Bit weird it worked its way loose, I've never had that before in all my years of riding.
