Hi,

Can anyone give me any advice on which are the better and more reputable car auctions in the South East of England.

Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Dinesh

BCA are a reputable firm, but you need to factor in the large buyers premium for non-account holders; this will come close to wiping out whatever savings you would make compared to a classified purchase.

I'll second that.

Buyer premium too high.

And if you don't know which sections to buy in you'll could end up buying something the dealers have put in there due to faults.

Prices for nice stuff is high at auctions, 100 dealers all competing to buy the nice ones.

+ 1

Also you'll sometimes finding that you're 'bidding against the wall'. Google it if you don't know what that means. Funnily enough BCA comes out on top where that is concerned.

If it is a one-off private purchase, see if you can befriend a local trader with a biz account, at the pub or lodge or golf club or whatever, and minimise the silly auction fees and surf on their experience. Know someone who (through a mate) recently bought a 2016 Golf R for ~£17k + fees, when they currently retail in the £22-25k range.

If you know what to look for, and you are buying a car that is only 12 to 18 months old then you still have a decent amount of manufacturers warranty left.

Also 17k plus fees would total around 18k so still a very good deal as in your example.

I have bought many newish vehicles from auction, and some days things don't go your way, too many people after the same cars. Some days you can drop

lucky and get a very nice motor at a very decent price. Be prepared to do a lot of research on the BCA website on upcoming auctions, keep a look out for the type of car you are interested in and very important the grading on condition that BCA give to cars. Grade 1 is what you are after, but you may have to visit the auction centre more than once to get your "perfect" car.
