Railway related gift

My Dad has been a railway engineer all of his career and will soon retire.

I'd like to buy/make him a railway related retirement present and wondered if you could help or had any ideas.

I had thought about a couple of stools made from those large suspension springs used on bogies (and some nice bits of wood) but cannot find where to get hold of them. Ebay isn't helping.

Any thought on this or any other suggestions that could be DIY'd into a suitable family gift for the old man?!

My dad got an old train/station plate for the lancs railway, of his house number which looks really nice to replace the standard one.

Try your local wagon/loco maintenance depot ?

If you go this route, tell them about yer dad.
