5k budget for daily commute! Car Advice Please
Discussion
Hi Everyone,
I am looking to buy a reliable and econimical car for my daily commute from East to SE , its only 8-10miles each way! But due to location of where I live and my workplace public transport takes almost 90mins, where as driving is on avereage 45-60 minutes! Not to mention its more comfertable in a car specially on cold mornings like today, freezing at the bus stop was the last straw.
So I would like any advice from you guys on what car I should be looking for, main thing is reliability and economy, second comfort and anything else is nice to have. Also must be an auto!
Thank you in advance for any help!

Thanks for the tips, didnt see any Golfs on AT with heated sets for the budget.
Dont think I can drive manual specially in the start stop traffic that you get a lot of in london!
What do people think of this: Honda Civic Hybrid ?

£4k for an 11 year old 1.3 Civic, no thanks!
With your mileage (estimating ~10k a year), the difference in fuel cost between a 35mpg and a 45mpg car is only about £300 per annum, I wouldn't suggest you worry about it too much. Far better getting a less economical car for £2k, than that Civic for £4k.

I know it's not what you are after here, but I'd seriously consider cycling (or motorbike) if 10mph is the best you can do in a car.public transport takes almost 90mins

Answering the question, it's going to be a slew of middle-of-road 3\5 door hatchbacks. Focus? Not awful, wide selection available.
Whatever you get - smallish petrol engine, heated seats.
If you're looking at a hybrid (which, for your commute, I wouldn't rule out), then you should also consider the Toyota Auris Hybrid.
It's much nicer to drive than the Prius, and will save you a bomb in fuel when you're stuck in nasty London traffic.
For your £5k budget, you'll be looking at higher mileage cars, but still worth considering.

I have actually thought about cycling! but this was ruled out by the Mrs due to her perception that I am very accident prone..Answering the question, it's going to be a slew of middle-of-road 3\5 door hatchbacks. Focus? Not awful, wide selection available.

But situation has changed now, I need a car as I will likely need to assist with picking up the children now and then from Nursery also.
It does not have to be a hybrid to be honest, just need it to be automatic, just saw the Honda and thought, its economical, japanese so reliable and cheaper to run/maintain?
Auris is definately on top of my list, am really considering this one: [url Auris 1.4 D-4D | https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...
One of the main reason being its the closest to my home! and I need to buy the car this weekend regardless of what it is.
It has to be a petrol for such a short journey also on smaller cars high spec ones with heated seats are rare.
C'eed but no heated seats:

Clio Initiale (some of these have heated seats)

If heated seats are a must then I'd say a Lexus IS250 not as frugal as the Kia but it has the seats.
