Can't really explain why this has been bought but it seemed a good idea at the time (2 weeks ago!). I have never owned a V12 so wanted to tick that box and missed having a convertible too. I did consider going back to a R107 but the urge to try something new got the better of me.

The Merc in question is a1994 SL600 with 86k on the clock.

Day one was interesting...car went into limp mode twice, then the immobiliser shat itself, alarm went nuts and the whole car shut down. Wouldn't start, no power, nothing. Excellent.

The next morning everything worked perfectly....and so all was instantly forgiven. I can see a lot of pleasure and pain ahead hehe

Little things amaze me on this car - electric rear view mirror for example. Also, a switch that lifts the ashtray up gently should you wish to use or empty it. The ride is very floaty yet comfortable and I love it. It encourages you to relax and and just be cool on the roads so I am convinced these cars make us better people.

Going forward, nothing much planned except getting some 3 point belts put in the back and a leisurely cruise down to Le Mans Classic in the Summer. Cannot wait.

Anyway, enough rambling, here it is.

The central one? Interesting, how does it function?

Yep, central one. There is a rather big button near the gear shifter and you control both wing mirrors and the rear view mirror with the same control. Wildly unnecessary but cool!

Nice! I have serious SL want, and I believe this year is the year to do it, as prices seem to be headed North.

Will follow with interest. thumbup

I gather these are the guys to see for three-point rear belts.

https://www.quickfitsbs.com/classic_cars_seatbelts...

It does get very windy with the hood down and no wind deflector installed, so children may not find it bearable for very long. The hardtop obviously solves that but is a bit less fun.

Think the base price in 1994 (without options) was around £94k so a £180k car in todays money

Lovely car. These seem to be climbing rapidly in value. Harry's car was a complete bargain that won't be repeated again!

Lovely car OP. I have a R129 SL500 and a R230 SL600. I think what I would really like is a cross between the two.

Nice one, Sir.

The day one gremlins could simply have been voltage-related if the car had been sitting for a while before you purchased it. Regular use and a strong battery are the order of the day.

If not already done so I recommend flushing the suspension's hydraulic fluid. Use a suction device to siphon out the old fluid from the engine-bay reservoir and refill with Febi ZH-M 02615. Whilst the fluid is not hygroscopic (like brake fluid) it does get grubby:
