how smooth is your Chimmy Chim chim...

every since I've had the Chim I've noticed that it doesn't always run super smooth...I mean there is a little hesitancy there and on a constant throttle there is a slight "missing" going on...anyone else suffer from this...is it a "characteristic" or do I start looking for - what? - fried coil. already had new leads, dist cap and rotor coz there reqd anyway or is it more likely to be a fueling problem ( Mark Adams session maybe ?). whatcha think ??? It has never stopped due to this and picks up fine when on the gas...just bugs me

If you've already tried this, and you've done leads etc, then it may be that you do need a remap (unless anyone has a cheaper suggestion)...

I replaced the coil on discovering that it was weeping oil (£45 approx) and the Lucas temperature sensor (£9) that feeds the engine management system. This ended all my running problems.

nice one Nuggs, not heard that one before, ( anyway, I thought the stepper only really affected the idle speed ??? ) new coil and temp sensor sound more likely...

so, from this, do I assume all your Chims don't "miss" at all then....all smoother than snot on a door knob then...

I'm going to break with convention here. I never did any stepper motor polishing on my Chim' and never had any issues that were traced to it either. It is there to control the idle and that's it afaik, so in regular driving it should not be much of a factor. I'd suggest that it's one of the group of components regularly cooked under the bonnet, such as leads, ignition module or coil. Tim at ACT is your man for the leads or Coil. I'll try and dig out the link I had for the ignition module.

As for smoothness, mine isn't as silky as it could be, but it's a darn sight better than it was pre-SM cleaning and Magnecors.

Saving my pennies for Mr Adams to wave his magic wand over her now...

Try running witout the vac advance connected, if no difference, connect it back. Many people run like this.

I clean my stepper motor every 2,000 miles (approx) and it’s never ‘sooted up’ like the one featured in the photos that are detailed in the link that is often posted on here.

Now then. I have no idea what I am on about here, but I had slight hesitancy when accelerating – about 2,500 to 3,000 revs range. Plugs okay, leads okay, temp sensor okay,etc. Fitted new thermostat (82 deg), now the hesitant spot is not there

I tried the vac pipe mod and , on my car anyway, there was no discerable difference in fact it ran less well if anything ( yes I did seal up the plenum end when I tried it )....? ho hum.
